So far I've purchased every FreeBSD book on the market. I was slightly disappointed with this book. The author failed to go into details on many attributes of FreeBSD. A new user will not find detailed steps on getting the OS running. An experienced user will not find much use for this book. It is however a great book for someone looking for an overview of FreeBSD. In my opinion, the best FreeBSD book for my money has been and still is:FreeBSD: An Open-Source Operating System for Your Personal Computer, Second Edition (with CD-ROM)by Annelise Anderson (Paperback)

This may be a complete reference in terms of topics covered, but it isn't one, in my view, in terms of FreeBSD coverage. That may be impossible, if you are going to title a book as such, I think you need to deliver -- at least better than the authors did.I am in the process of setting up a freebsd network. I've used this book to help in that endeavor, and it has helped, but the configuration issues I'm dealing with now do not have a solution referenced in this book. For example, in the chapter on file servers, there are many discussions on the basics of FTP, Samba, and other servers, but there isn't a guide on how to set up a plain vanilla file server that's used essentially as a big hard drive for a number of clients on the network, either Unix clients or Windows clients. THAT would have been a very helpful discussion and it wasn't here. Instead, there's a brief (in my view) discussion on Samba, including installation, but nothing with respect to troubleshooting if something isn't working right.I'll be the first to confess that I am no guru on this operating system, so please don't take much from this review is you are a guru. Just be aware that "complete" may be a bit misleading, at least as I define it.

I got this book so that I can read about FreeBSD without having an access to computer. I do think that FBSD has enough docs online to setup and run the system.Overall, the book was effective as a reference on FBS installation and systems commands. As a long-time UNIX/Linux user, I did not need the background and mostly used the book as a reference and not reading it from start to finish. I did manage pretty much anything I looked for, with the notable exception of one kernel module programming issue.I think the book is very well suited for a beginner FBSD sysadmin and for "Linux-switchers" as well.Anton Chuvakin, Ph.D., GCIA, GCIH is a Senior Security Analyst with a major information security company. This is a great overview of FreeBSD for beginners and a great ready reference for experienced users. The clarity of the writing is wonderful, and makes the rather arcane subject of FreeBSD more accessible to general audiences. Works like this are very important to ensure that open source operating systems continue to spread among an audience which extends beyond the traditional open source community. It strikes a great balance between including all the necessary information and having too-much-information, which often turns users off. Great job!

This book can only be of use to those new to FreeBSD. I found that a lot of topics were too general and did not provide any in-depth information for more experienced users.If you're just starting out with FreeBSD then this is great book for you. If you are looking to further your knowledge then look for a book aimed at a higher experience level.

I have long been curious about the value of lawsuits in America because I consult on a number of them as an expert witness. This book articulates many of the ideas that I have developed over the years but had not clearly formulated. The author expresses his ideas very well and makes his arguments effectively so that I am convinced now that the law does a service by allowing citizens to sue in order to redress their grievances. My experience is that these cases are legitimate but Bogus presents the evidence that on the whole this is a healthy process for the country and provides discipline to our democracy. The book is more interesting than I expected and quite well written. The book deals with the gender pronouns (he/she) effectively and in several cases he made me smile reading she where my bias jumped ahead and thought he. I recommend it.

The author's central argument is that product liability lawsuits are an essential vehicle for enabling citizens to impose societal values on powerful corporations. The market can't do this because the profit motive can encourage corporate behavior that unfairly imposes business's costs on the public. Government regulation is often hamstrung by the pressures powerful competing interests bring to bear on the political process. But, combined with important safeguards built into the judicial process, juries bring diverse life experiences, societal mores, and a gut-level sense of fairness to important issues that impact citizens' lives. The common law enables the community to extract information from hard-to reach places and to provide a democratic check on the powerful. I would say the author made his case.

Thsi book does a great job of describing and defining the two distinct roles of our civil justice system - (1) to compensate victims and (2) to regulate conduct. This book could not be more timely a read for those interested in casting an educated vote in the 2002 elections. President Bush, supported by big business, as tried more than once during the past year to pass federal legislation to give corporate america a free ride. This book explains why "tort reform" is so important to big business and why they are willing to spend so much to put politicians in office that will trade the public's constitutional rights for campaign contributions. After spending the first few chapters with a historical perspective on our jury system and debunking more than a few rumers started by the tort "deformers" the author turns to hsi focus on the area of products liability. This section may be a little over the heads of those that have no experience with the legal system. Not withstanding, I think even the basic reader will understand from the authors examples the grip corporate america has on our government. I think the author does a good job of supporting his words with facts and this book has a wealth of statistical information for anyone who finds themselves entrenched in the war on our civil justice system. I wish I had enough money to buy a copy for every politicians I know.

This well-written book helps debunk any assumption that the title "Why Lawsuits Are Good For America" may contain an oxymoron. Mr. Bogus describes a common law system that is very recognizable to those of us who practice law in America today. Jurors take their responsibilities very seriously. Jurors are fully capable of finding facts and applying nuanced statements of the law and crafting reasoned verdicts. Keep this book in your library and refer to it when you hear others fretting about whether jurors can handle emotional or big dollar cases.

The problem with this book is that it doesn't adress important issues facing our legal system today. If for example Ford motor company manufactures a SUV with a faultly shock system that fails and causes the truck to roll over resulting in serious injury or death, clearly we have an open and shut case where Ford is completely liable and you can certainly bet that Ford is going to make sure that problem never happens again. But that's obvious. Anyone who knows little to nothing about the law understands full well that a company who is found to have a faulty product will increase their standards and work feverishly to fix the product in order to prevent future legal action. Carl T. Bogus has taken simple ideas like those and twisted them around to create a driving force for his political agenda, and baseless political agenda no less."And although the public was largely unaware of it, George W. Bush's 'tort reform'-which seeks to constrict the ability of individuals to sue corporations-was a major factor in his raising unprecedented sums for his presidential candidacy." The public? Carl you're a law professor at an over priced, second rate university in the middle of Rhode Island. How does that give you a divine right to claim that you know more than the average person about the Bush administration and allow you to make an accusation like that based on no fact at all? Where are the fact checkers at NYU press anyways?To the contrary when George W. Bush is speaking in terms of tort reform he is referring to torts that actually need reform. Let's look at Johnny Edwards (former vice presidential running mate to John Kerry) who specializes in malpractice suits specifically involving children born with cerebral palsy. He claims that if doctors had immediately performed Caesarean sections then the babies would have been spared the affliction. The results of such lawsuits have yielded 4 times as many C-sections performed since 1970, yet the number of children born with cerebral palsy has remained constant. In fact cerebral palsy is linked to fetal brain injury long before labor begins. Edwards has avoided cases where the children died at birth because typically juries only award roughly $500,000 in those situations. In 1985 Edwards was on a case dealing with a girl named Jennifer Campbell, a 5 year old with cerebral palsy, which ended up being an award of 6.5 million dollars for the plaintiffs. This is what president Bush means by "tort reform". In simple terms someone who spills a cup of hot coffee on themselves while pulling away from a drive through window should NOT be awarded any type of damage. Cases like these undermine the goals of the framers of the Constitution of the United States of America and place individuals freedoms in jeopardy. We have seesaws vanishing from playgrounds, emergency-room staff blocked from attending to patients off hospital grounds even if they can see them bleeding to death just 30 feet away, "Caution HOT" warning labels on cups of coffee that a Chimpanzee could identify as "hot" without referring to a warning label, removing of harmless 10 Commandment Icons from parks and courthouses, and Godless Pledges of Allegiances. This is the America we live in. As a professor of Law Mr. Bogus should be required to teach the "LAW"; NOT the principles of the Democratic party. This book is the result of an egotistical, politically driven, liberal professor at a law school that offers a free bowl of soup with every degree. I wish I had more hands so I could give this book four thumbs down.

I have been a fan of Anime since the good ole days of Mazinger Z and Getter Robo. My kids have always enjoyed manga and I always ignored the books since they looked childish. Astra caught my eye as my son was looking at another manga series. The artwork reminded me of the classic anime I grew up with. I bought book #1 of Astra and instantly became addicted. I am reading all five books and I can not put them down. They are written for teens in mind with the humor, but any age will enjoy the vibrant characters, the psychology of today's teens, and the peer pressures. It's a great series and I only wish there was more than five books. I highly recommend this series.

I purchased volumes 1 & 2 from various stores and got me intrigued, this is the first time I ever read or owned an outer space manga, now as my title first stated , it’s seems to provide me answers to my questions but each one that is solved a few more take its place. In short I can’t wait for the final 2 volumes coming this year. But at least it won’t take a few years to wait unlike a certain manga series I can’t mention “Maximum Ride”.😭

My son loves reading it ...

That alone was enough to make me want to read this book, but once I started, I couldn't put the book down. Ms. Brennan tells the story of Irish Dance with an obvious love of the subject and a gift for storytelling. She introduces us to famous dancers of the recent past and tells the story of dance in different areas of the country. I found myself enjoying this book more than I ever expected, and learned a great deal in the process.

The Story of Irish Dance was a great book! I learned so much about the history of Irish dancing! The author writes in such an engaging style that transports the reader back through time. I am an Irish dancer and I would defiantly recommend this book to other Irish dancers as well as anyone with a love of Irish history. :]

The storyline picks up where book 1 left off. It takes time to unravel this story and Tracie Peterson does a good job of it. Some parts are slow, but worth it in the long run. I hope to see more of George in book 3. I agree with another post, there are a few loose ends- Ned and Portia, hopefully they are also addressed in book 3.

I chose to rate this book with a 4 because yes it is a very good book but because it is part of a series some parts are left out. two I noticed was 1. Zane went back to be court martialed and gave this great speech but you have to guess at the results. 2. Portia and Ned got married and then they disappeared. unless something is written in the next book it left you hanging. I do love the way Tracie is able to write with a spiritual maturity that has me bookmarking pages to be able to go back and be inspired again. I recommend this book to believers in Christ as well as nonbelievers in hopes that they will be led to believe.

The Coming Storm is book 2 of Tracie Peterson's Heirs of Montana Series. It becomes a MUST READ as book 1 leaves you hanging. One has to get book 2! And then, Ms Peterson skillfilly re-introduces certain characters into the plot so that the reader eagerly follows this book through to the end. The historical evidence of this era leaves one thankful that we didn't live during the time of settling the country as a homesteader. Prejudices are also skillfully portrayed between races and classes, leaving the reader thankful for the freedoms and acceptance generally given today. Kudos to Ms Peterson for this series presenting history and clean yet enticing romance.

Although I enjoyed this book, I’m not giving it a higher rating because I feel that Tracie Peterson fell short in presenting the true Gospel of Jesus Christ, by intentionally omitting His name, and only referring to God in general terms. That was disappointing to me, although the story was well-written.

I finally collected most of her books so now i get to read and enjoy! I got hooked on several of her books and i compare them with Karen Kingsbury and Beverly Lewis. good clean, Christian, romantic and funny books. with a message which is so important to me! You can't go wrong with any of Tracie's books! I only buy from Amazon.com and they are much better then the so called wholesale Christian book places, no shipping you can't lose! Enjoy! I’ve probably read 40 books since I considered a book to be a five star. The story is ncredible and believable. The characters so well developed and there was never a moment where the story left me wanting. Can’t say enough good. Now, I hope it does not become a movie because there is no way it can be given justice in two hours ... but a 10 hour series ... I’m in!

Another excellent book! My only advice is be sure you buy and read The Whistleblower before you read The Last Act. Both are extremely well done! Great job, Mr. Parks!

The Last Act has a bit of a slow start, and to be honest, I wasn't sure if I would like the book. I've read this author before, so I should've known better because that slow start is like a calm before the storm. That lull is like a lure, pulling you into a false sense of security before it all goes crazy. The premise for this one seems over the top to me, and does require a suspension of disbelief with the danger the FBI is willing to allow a private citizen to put himself in. Tommy is offered a large sum of money for doing what he does best - acting, playing a part. Except this part may well cost him his life. Of course, the number of ways this job could go wrong kept running through my mind, and I really wanted to give Tommy a good shake to stop him. That wouldn't have made much of a story though, and off Tommy goes to prison. Naturally, things start to go wrong and just get worse from there with plenty of twists and edge of your seat moments for our characters. The story kept me turning pages, but the thing that impressed me most was Tommy. I'm not, nor have I ever been an actor, and thankfully, I've never had any dealings with a drug cartel or prison, but Tommy is just so relatable and likable that even when I wanted to scream at him not to do this, I was still rooting for him. This is one of those stories that I can easily see as a movie, and it's definitely one that I would buy a ticket to see.

Tommy Jump is a relatively unknown actor out of acts, having nothing to look forward to and in low financial straits. One of his friends invites him to consider what most would view as an unlikely scenario. It’s one that invites fine acting since it could otherwise wind up with the actor under attack or even dead. For a while, it’s hard to know who is legit and who’s a fraud. The Last Act by Brad Parks is a standalone novel, and my first book by Brad Parks. This was an excellent suspense thriller that kept me reading from start to finish.Tommy Jump is an actor, who loves his job, but with his fiancée pregnant, he knows he has to get a regular job to make ends meet. Feeling down after performing his last show, Tommy runs into an old friend. His friend is now an FBI agent, and offers Tommy a 6 month job that will make him more than $150.000. All Tommy has to do is take on a fake persona, go to jail and make friends with a banker, who is hiding documents that will incriminate a Mexican drug cartel boss. Needless to say, Tommy accepts the job and prepares himself and his fiancée for the 6 month acting gig.When Tommy enters the jail, he makes sure to make friends, getting himself closer to the banker. He also gets his FBI friends to give him contraband from the outside to use to bribe prison mates in helping him get what he needs.What follows is an interesting, as well as suspenseful story that is told in multiple pov’s (Tommy, his fiancée, the drug lord, and assistant to the drug lord). While Tommy is working to discovering where the documents are, we get glimpses how dangerous and evil the drug boss is, as he thinks nothing of killing anyone on the spot. We also get a close up of the assistant, who is determined to find the documents, before his boss kills him. It is a very exciting story line, and very well written by Parks.The Last Act is fast paced, suspenseful, and intense; which keeps us glued to the book until the very end. I do not want to give too much information, as there are so many twists and surprises all through the book. Tommy was a great character, who evolves as the story continues; especially with the many twists along the way that change everything. The Last Act was a gripping story that was so well written by Parks. If you enjoy suspense thrillers, I suggest you read this book.
