I bought this book for my daughter after the death of her dad in 2009. I read it before she did so that i would know what it was about. I am very glad that i bought this for her. I gave her this and a highlighter so she could relate to some of the stories in the book. It helped me to know some of her feelings afterwards so that we could focus on things that were top priority in her mind. this is a book of other children telling their feelings and stories of loosing a parent. I knew somethings to expect, but other i had no clue. I would never have know why she would do the things she did without preparing myself and seeing what most children do with this kind of loss. she was popular in the sixth grade and after her dads death, she quit being friends with most of the girls in her group, expecially those that had close relationships with their fathers like she did. She is coping very well 2 years later and i am so glad i found this book.

My pre-teen stepkids lost their mother this year, and I bought the book for them. But, I read it on my own first, and it had me in tears. It's beautiful, sad, and compelling, but ultimately it shows children and teens that they are not alone in what they feel, reassures them that their feelings are legitimate, and gives them hope for the future. It is written by a woman who lost both her parents as a child, and she gives them advice and reassurance that is personal, not clinical. She interviewed other teens about different aspects of grief, so there is insight from many different people who are actually grieving, not just from detached professionals. I am now more able to understand what my stepchildren are going through, even though I will never fully understand, and it gave me ideas for ways I can help them.

This was a very good book and validated what my teenager is feeling. Let him know that other teenagers have also lost parents and that his thoughts are normal. It was good to read about other teenagers' experiences with parent death.

I bought this for research on a book that I am writing. A lovingly prepared collection of first hand accounts of children coping with the death of a parent. I found it quite helpful for my work. I also think that it would be quite cathartic for children coping with the same experience to know that they are not alone, that their feelings are legitimate, and that they can survive and move on to healthy productive lives.

Initially, I thought the book only recounted stories from those who had lost their parents as teens, but I was wrong. These are teenagers talking about the loss they'd experienced anywhere from 8 years of age and older. I'm finding it very helpful in understanding what my daughter will be experiencing in the wake of the loss of her dad. And as the widow, I find I can relate to many of the concerns of the teens. For example, there is a chapter on talking about the loss with outsiders. Do you mention and relive the grief all over? Do you let it drop and feel strange not acknowledging it?

Chuck Swindoll did a great job of dissecting the Book of Job. I love this book because it helps us understand that no matter what your trials are you must know that God is still on the Throne. Job never disrespected the Sovereignty of God but was allowed to question why especially since he knew that his life represented God. This is a great book to read to enhance growth and maturity in ones walk with the Lord. The evil one came for Job on every side but Job did not give in. No matter what his circumstances was, he never denied the Greatness of God something the whole world need to understand so that life can be lived to the fullest in Christ Jesus!

It's been a little while since I read this book till now, when I'm writing the review. But, this is one of my very favorite of Swindoll's books. It really shows how God is in control of our lives in ways we don't fully appreciate. The book makes a contentious postulation that God was directly responsible for causing Job's ailments and calamities. The argument is well formed...even if many people don't go along with it.There's no fluff or platitudes in Swindoll's writing. And his love of Christ always shines through in his books.

Any Biblical based biographies by Charles Swindoll are incredible. I have read several and can hardy put them down. I wanted to read Job as I read through the Bible every year and as mant times as I have done it, I always want to know more about what the "friends" are talking about. It is an awesome read and I highly recommend it as well as the ones about Paul, Joseph etc.

I've been trying to learn more about the characters of the old testament and I love the Charles presents it. It discusses the book of Job and all the circumstances in his life, but then he does a cool thing - he applies it modern time and YOUR life. I love that. I have become a big fan of Charles and bought many of his books this year. This book of Job was my 2nd of his I read - I read Elijah first which was awesome too. I'm on Ester right now and love that book too.

Analysis shallow and repetitive. If you want to hear in endless detail how insensitive Job's counselors were, this is the book for you. From this you would think the main purpose of the Holy Spirit in inspiring this book was to teach how not to do grief counseling. Anecdotes innocuous to offensive. Chuck is a much better preacher than a writer, and this book looks like a slapdash job put together from sermon notes. Not my cup of tea.

This is thick book. Chuck Swindoll does his best to keep interesting. A lot of scripture to cover. Never knew that from chapter 3 up to part of last chapter was written as poetry. This explains so much. His commentary adds so much to his great lives series. The whole series is just absolutely great!

Some interesting thoughts. If you are just looking or something to read that touches on the Book of Job this is ok. If you are looking for something even somewhat scholarly this is not it.

The author takes on a difficult study and, not only handles it well, he makes it easy and exciting to read. This whole series will definitely draw you closer to God.

Book not worth ~$30.... advice in the book is pretty basic and subjects are very short, like one paragraph short per topic. More information could be obtained on DentalTown honestly.. 2 stars only because I can refer back to the book as a quick reference if need be. not recommended for well researched dentists. Could possibly be useful to dental students who lack knowledge on this subject.

Mary Fisher-Day covers all the bases in this very informative, eye-opening and truthful look at what it takes to own and/or manage a dental practice. From buying (or buying into) your first practice, understanding insurance participation, marketing, risk management, leading your team and much more, she lays out strategies for success that are obviously learned and perfected from a long career in the dental industry. I found this book very engaging. Mary writes in an easy-to-read combination of plain talk and technical jargon that comes across very down to earth. You figure out very quickly that she doesn't just "know dentistry" .. she has "lived dentistry." I highly recommend this for any new dentist just starting out as well as the seasoned professional who needs a fresh perspective and new ideas to take their practice to the next level.

A very fascinating read. Emotional at times but also very interesting. Well written to the point that it felt like you were on the journey rather than reading about it.

Wonderfully written memoir.

Sequoia, prompted by a face book posting showing a photo of a deceased mountain climber that looked a little like her brother, embarked on a journey to the mountain where her father and brother were tragically killed in an accident two years before. K2 is the second highest mountain in the world and arguably the most dangerous to climb. She went to find the remains and to identify and bury them. She traveled alone, only her and three or four Pakistani guides, cooks, and porters.When you hike and camp over long distances with people you inevitably talk. Sequoia‘s book reads like you are hiking along with her and she is telling of her adventure to K2. She describes the tastes and sounds of the journey until you can feel it. Each passage is filled with her love of adventure and travel to faraway places and the book is also filled with the love and respect she had for her father and brother. Her casual passages make you forget just how remarkable it was for a young woman to plan and complete such a journey, deep into Pakistan on short notice and with little time for planning.A good story and a good read.

I just ordered this book after meeting this impressive young lady on a flight. She told me she had written a book but made no reference to the true calling of it. I am saddened to read how it came to be a but am excited to read her journey knowing where she is now. Complete.
