At first, I had a big groan when I saw these announced. But they're great. I have the CRB as well in the pocket edition and it's great. The bestiary is perfect for GMs of course, but also for those hot on summoning and the like.It also just looks less daunting to newer or more casual players (even thought it's just shrunk down).The only sad part is, since this will definitely get put in and out of bags due to the nice size/weight - the cover is bound to get roughed up corners. Not a drawback at all, just makes me sad.
I'm new to roleplaying games, and the Pathfinder system, and I'm already tired of searching through online resources during sessions. But I'm not so into it that I felt the cost of the full size, hardcover version was warranted either.Pocket edition ftw.The smaller size means a smaller font and the words are well, small. The pages remind me of high school textbook paper. Glossy and of good quality. As far as I know this tome contains the exact same text and art as the hardcover version just printed to scale for the smaller softcover.I'm running a premade adventure module with my group. Since these are both official Pazio content when the AM tells me to look up a monster on page so and so, lo and behold, there it is. Well done.I am a new DM/GM and I'm trying to keep the game simple. Having the bestiary allowed my first time player, playing as a druid, to be able to choose her first animal companion from only the base companion races available in this resource. I don't mean to say that she couldnt have done that from the online resources, this just simplified the process. With a game as wide and varied as this is, sometimes you have to impose limitations.
This paperback version is great! it's cheap and it's not as heavy. While it it won't fit in your pocket a stack of these will be a bit kinder on your back. I do plan to baby these a bit more than my hardback books. The pages are the same as the hardback just a bit smaller. This is a definitely a must if you're starting out in Pathfinder and can't drop the cash on all the books.
The book looks to be good quality, nice glossy pages, great size for travel, and a significant discount from the hardcover price. If it weren't for my own poor eyesight, i'd buy more Pathfinder books in this format. Definitely recommend if you don't have an issue with reading smaller print.
This thing is just ugly, I don't know what to make of it. The monsters are so cartoonish and goofy they belong in a Pokidex for little kids and not for serious adults
Fabulous content! And the pocket size makes the letters a bit small to read, but the smaller book is SO nice to transport. Plus, the art and various creatures in the book are amazing, as always. Definitely worth buying for any Pathfinder player.
These are more affordable and easier to carry to game sessions. I use these more than the hard cover books.
I am really happy with these books. I was working on a campaign while flying home from a trip. I was able to pull out the book and not look like a crazy person.
