Great Book. Clear writing and very little BS. I'm reading the Kindle version, which is good for some things (like having the book always at hand),but can suffer from formatting issues. Many "pocket references" can have too little detail. This has more than I expected (which makes me wonder what the upcoming "in a nutshell" book would have that this doesn't).Take his advice and use LINQPad (free version) to try out code.

IMO, C# has evolved sufficiently that, especially when maintaining source with other programmers' idiosyncratic idioms, using out-of-date references can be counterproductive.I'm about half way thru this pocket reference.Fundamental points on which it is weak are "this" and specific implications of ":" ,where examples are provided seemingly instead of clear explanations, e.g. "Rules Within a Namespace" (pp 65-66).Referring to the authors' (also well-regarded) "Nutshell" book is not helpful, since it employs the same approach. FWIW, neither book indexes colon usage, and "Pocket Reference" does not index CLR, Common Language Runtime (page 20).Bottom line: this seems a good portable hard copy up-to-date quick reference.For more/different help, Microsoft's online docs work.

It’s a life filled with hope, grace, mercy and power and love, but it does not come through the temporary things, it comes through the spiritual life, devoted to following Jesus.This is the premise out of which Alcorn writes. He uses a number of scripture references to make his points. This is a short and easy to read book which will speak very clearly about money and possessions. There are a number of excellent resources and study questions in the back of the book as well.Overall, I would recommend this book to read.I received this book from Blogging for Books in exchange for an honest review.

We do lots of bible studies with our small group. I really wanted to like this one. I heard good things about it, read good reviews, and then I read it and was disappointed. We also viewed the videos that accompany the lesson. They are very outdated and the information is dry. I almost nodded off. The questions were incredibly basic and there was not much depth. It didn't leave much to be discussed. The best discussion questions are those that do not have simple answers. Most of the questions in this guide had simple answers. In my opinion, this study guide would be good for an individual who wants to do some personal reflections and grow in knowledge of biblical financial management. It would be great for beginners. It does not work well as a group study. I would recommend the Blessed Life by Robert Morris for a better overall financial study for a group.

I was recommended this book by a good friend whom God has blessed . He told me about how he retreads this book to refocus his spiritual life. This book challenges you to come out of your comfort zone and take a step in Faith to be blessed by giving more than we thought possible. A master's degree in education and an avid interest in all things scientific did not prepare me for this wonderful ride. Dave Goldberg makes physics concepts (for the most part) both more difficult than you can imagine and more compelling to actually imagine and then to attempt mastery. Yes, some of the book does read like that last sentence! That's okay.

The book covers a wide range of topics in physics and explains them in a relatively easy to understand way. Relatively in that you should have at least some familiarity with science (or better yet, physics) but you don' need to be a physics student to get this (and probably wouldn't learn a lot but Dave Goldberg is hilarious so you still might enjoy it).The only short coming is that I think he over stretches sometimes in trying to tie things back to the concept of symmetry. Other than that though, it's very edifying and enjoyable. His end notes (in the Kindle edition, they might be foot notes in print?) are particularly amusing.

Fantastic!! Dave Goldberg has quite the "fun" writing style....I've never laughed out loud before when reading about quantum physics. I love the way he can explain complex, mind-bending concepts such that a simple mechanical engineer like myself can understand.

The physics portions of the book were often profound and insightful. I suspect that the occasional philosophical quip could simply be ignored without much loss - e.g., there's really not a correlation between the size of the universe and the importance of the reader, but the author wastes small amounts of time thinking otherwise.

I have a better layman's understanding of the universe and the various theories of the sub-atomic realm than I did before reading it. We live in a strange universe.

It's got "the right stuff" for anyone non academic to the grasp the latest insides of the universe with a absolute minimum number of (essential) equations; Non academic doesn't mean shallow. It delves deep and brings fascination.Not fully explaining everything in the beginning, but later chapters clarify and explain missing bits.Great writing with a nice, sometimes comical twist.Tres biens.Thank you.

Dave Goldberg is incredibly smart. He is able to explain very complex realities with relatively simple analogies, all the while using a great sense of humor. A joy to read in parts, and readable throughout.

An amazing popularization which packs a surprizing amount of sophisticated physics (and a tribute to Emmy Noether's mathematical genius) into a brief and cheekily informal package. A delight to read.

Although it's a book about a trip to Taiwan and Japan I found the heart of the book to be about family and friendships and the universal way we give and receive love. Many human and relatable elements were intertwined throughout the journey.I enjoyed reading the book on Kindle because I could 'click' on a place the travelers visited and pull up a Google image of the place. It was super cool to see how the author's descriptions and my imagination compared to the real thing.While I enjoyed learning interesting facts about the places the couple visited, I was equally impacted by the human dynamics in the story.Ex. I was touched when the author shared how he felt guilty about taking the trip because his parents never had a chance to travel.The concept of giving of one's self as an act of kindness was throughout the story in little and big ways. Some examples - when the author wanted his wife's help with stowing their luggage onto the train but he begrudgingly chooses not to ask because he recalls her doing all of their laundry😊❤. Or when the traveling couple pushed past ungodly and even comical sleep deprevation just to be gracious guest to their host. And how their hosts dilgently planned, gave their time and shared their knowledge with the couple.The book inspired a lot of introspection. It made me ask myself, how often do I give for sake of giving? It also made me see the nobility of being a host; offering time and space, giving someone a chance to experience a different culture is virtuous.On a side note, I thought it was adorable how similar the author and his wife seem to be...their humor, money consciousness, buddist like kindness❤. I wonder if they were so similar at the the begining of their relationship or if they grew to share each other's traits❤In short, a book that teaches you new things about the world and inspires you to be a better partner, friend and family member is an excellent book in my opinion. Thank you for the good read Morland Matthews.

Oh my gosh!! What a waste of time!!! Title is perfect however the book is full of complaints. If you want to read a book about traveling to Taiwan and Japan... your better bet is trip advisor. This author clearly sees life half empty. What a waste of time reading his continued misery in Asia. First leg of trip says Taiwan much resembles US so many English signs then says not the cultured trip fast forward to Japan no English signs and he hates it. Hmm stay in NYC

An epic adventure, rivaled only by the tale of Odysseus, I felt like I was there with Morland & his wife as they wandered through Taiwan and Japan. If you want a glimpse of the people and cutlures of these two countries, without the jet lag, you are sure to enjoy this book and gobble it up like a tray of the finest sushi.I hope you experience many more adventures and I encourage you to keep writing and sharing these adventures with both friends & strangers.

It was fun to venture with Morland & Sandra to Taiwan & Japan. Mr. Matthews is comical in certain descriptions that he gives of unexpected and foreign practices. Although these are faraway lands that I probably will not be able to visit personally, I am grateful that I was able to see those countries through Mr. Matthews' eyes while also getting to see the character of the author. I especially enjoyed his experience and difficulties he encountered regarding his boots.

When I read Matthews’s book decades after my interest in breaking bricks with my bare hands or executing a perfect roundhouse kick faded, I remembered why the Far East was, and remains, so fascinating to so many people. Besides the style of combat that Bruce Lee made internationally famous during the trendy and experimental and militant 1970s, it is, among other things, the vast distance: because it’s so incredibly far away, and expensive to travel to that part of the world, it is a rarity for most Americans. Matthews’s putting “Kit Kat” in the title is a stroke of brilliance; it brings the seemingly cosmic experience within easy reach. We are invited, for little more than we would spend on a travel magazine or a pair of earplugs, to follow Matthews and Sandra, his wife, through their well-planned, budget-conscious journey, and through a generous and skillful use of detailed description, we are always right there with them. I can almost feel the nitrogen bubbles welling up inside me from the homicidally long journey. The narrative flows easily, and what is conveyed is a sense of constructive urgency: throughout the book, we feel the tempo and the inspirational anxiety of being late for the flight we’re about to miss. One thing that is missing is the larger sense of urgency that should convince the readers of any travelogue to visit a certain place: Venice is sinking; you’d better get there before it’s gone forever. Or, the ancient ruins of Athens will soon be rotted away by pollution; better get to the Acropolis before it becomes unrecognizable

This book is AMAZING! the self developing flow of the book feels so natural with its emotional ups and downs, while still maintaining your undivided attention and holding true to your expectations, with such prominent questions such as " what will happen next?", "will they find what they are looking for?" or " will they arrive on time?" Which in my opinion would keep any reader turning the pages of this book, in search of those ever so satisfying answers. In the end the reader is left with a much welcomed and favorable understanding of some of the culture , habits ,customs and technology of these places and hopefully also with a bit of curiosity to find out more.
