Laura Eckert has written an intense, personal story of loss and redemption. As we read of her youthful misadventures turning into later troubles, it seems like a story we have heard too many times. Having to move away from her home at a young age, she looks for something to replace her feelings of loneliness with many quick fixes to shield her from the pain.After going through the heartbreak of several abortions, she falls into drinking and partying to deal with the regret. As Eckert works through these feelings of loss over the next years of her life, we see her get into a happy marriage with the father of her unborn children. They soon realize they have not come to terms with their loss.The author struggles at times with the concept of forgiveness. Finally, the couple come to terms with their past through a church retreat and reaffirm their faith. As I neared the end of the book, the lyrics to MercyMe’s song Flawless, came to mind. “Could it possibly be, we simply can’t believe, that this unconditional type of love would be enough to, take a filthy wretch like this, and wrap him up in righteousness, but that’s exactly what He did.â€The author’s trials and tribulations, and ultimate bravery should be inspiring not only to women or men having gone through similar circumstances, but to anyone having trouble getting over loss. A very inspiring read.

This is also a story of family values, second chances and the amazing grace of God.The author has done a perfect job conveying her emotional and psychological state in different periods of her life, the bitterness and sadness of early years, and hard efforts of making the right choices.The book is truly life-changing and thought-provoking, written from the bottom of Laura’s heart, with such greatly depicted characters and events that I can easily imagine them in my mind. That’s why it had such a great impact on me, forcing a new look at life and family values, completely re-evaluating my attitudes.I was impressed by the whole book, but some chapters had a tremendous appeal to me. I was stunned by «Second Chances,» Laura’s “guardian angel rescue†and the incredible gift God gave her - the gift of a second chance. The completely unexpected epilogue just adds to the book, which I have to say is a must – read and definitely should not be missed.
I've known Laura since I was a child, as I am the same age as her daughter, and we spent a lot of time together in our formative years. I remember two things, so vividly, about being in Laura's presence: 1.) her passion and 2.) how accepting she was of my awkward teenage self.The word "passion" literally translates "to suffer," and, though I didn't understand her passion then, I SO get it after reading this book. Her passion was so intense because her suffering was as such. It was a poignant realization. Perhaps, too, she accepted me in all of the hideousness of my adolescence, because she knew just how rough being a teenager could be.There is so much to be said for being raw, open, and honest. There is so much redemption to be found in letting our wounds breathe and in giving them a voice. Laura has done just this; and, though some might scoff at the topic, or pass undue judgment, the message is clear: despite the deepest and darkest depths of our selves, there persists an undying light.May Laura's light be a beacon for others.

As I read each scene, I felt her pain, anguish, and uncertainty as she faced some of the most difficult obstacles that one person has ever endured. To say that this book impressed me is an understatement. I highly recommend it to all who crave a realistic look of a life and all the hardships it can bring.
I really enjoyed reading this book. The author has a bold and amazing voice, and I appreciate the fact that she doesn’t make excuses for the mistakes she made. Instead, she OWNS them. This is a very courageous story of how a person can make mistakes in their youth, but they can learn from them and turn their life around for the better. It’s an encouraging story for anyone facing difficulties, such as addiction. There were even a few events from Eckert’s childhood, which I was able to relate to. I’m definitely going to read it again, and I highly recommend it.
Laura’s book engages the reader and unfolds quickly. The story really touches the depth of your soul with her honesty about her life’s experiences. I feel the pain with the sad stories, the identification with the rebellious spirit, the growing self awareness, and ultimately the redemption. Truly the author delivered a magnificent book. I highly recommend this story to anyone wanting something real to read about, a story that touches the soul with both the dark and light aspects of life.I read the Kindle version of the book on my computer.
A truly powerful and incredibly candid memoir I suspect few people could read Laura's words and remain untouched by them. There is an increasing number of personal memoirs in print but many of those I have picked up seem unwilling to go more than surface deep. With Just Another Girl's Story I felt Laura was truly candid and I was getting to know the trials and trauma's of a person who has not only lived through them but come out stronger and an inspiration for so many readers like myself.
