This is an interesting life told in a very first hand way. Remember that Burnham is a product of his time, and the racial attitudes he states reflect that. If you can get past the rather frequent claims of "white" superiority you will find the story of a man who lived a fascinating life mainly by choosing adventure and conflict at almost every crossroads. Burnham was part of many of the major historical events of his time (the Gold rush in Alaska, the US indian wars and the Boer war to name just a few) and some of the anecdotes are revealing in ways that conventional history would not show. His adventures in South Africa are the heart of the book and those anecdotes really stick.Burnham is a story teller, not a writer. This is a book that will spend 5 pages talking about the moral value of prospectors, but speed over the loss of his two children in a paragraph each, so do not expect personal insights. Instead read it to learn what "happened". Taken as such it is an enjoyable read.

This is an absolutely fascinating story of an American scout, explorer, prospector and overall great man who helped develop our Southwest, the Yukon and several areas of africa. He fought indians, nature, African tribes and Boers. He knew and worked for many men; those who were great at the time and many who developed into fine statesmen. His description of the areas he travelled are quite good. It is a shame that American history has forgotten his memory.

This autobiography is full of action as Burnside serves his (largely) military masters on three continents as a scout and occasional sapper and assassin, with a few interludes as a prospector for gold and diamonds. Burnside seems to have hobnobbed with some of the great colonial minds of the era just before World War I, and he made his fortune as a prospector and occasional entrepreneur. What struck me the most, though, was how much Burnside was influenced by inspirational leaders -- especially Rhodes, the father of Rhodesia, Teddy Roosevelt with his rough rider style, and several British military commanders, including Lord Baden Powell, for whom he worked during the Second Boer War. In fact, it was Burnside who served as the model that inspired Baden-Powell to establish the Boy Scouts, in South Africa and subsequently in the U.S.The other thing that struck me is how much Burnside accepted the colonial model without question. While there are some rather harrowing accounts of running fights with African warriors of various nations in Southern Africa, most of the book focuses on the battles of the European nations with each other over control of a vast territory that all seemed to assume it was their right to take. It was almost as if the great African native population was a bystander.Ah, but Mr. Burnside is a study in contradictions. He brags about bagging four bull elephants on the one hand, and yet was instrumental in the development of wildlife preserves in the U.S. and Africa. He also taught Baden-Powell about scouting and woodcraft, and helped establish the Boy Scouts of America in the U.S. One of his fellow acquaintances and Boer War comrades, Winston Churchill, coined the phrase, "a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma." Churchill was referring to Russian post-WWI policy at the time, but it certainly could have been used to describe Mr. Burnside as well.

In this autobiography Burnham gives us an up close view of the frontier in the American west including the unforgettable ruses and methods he used to survive. He goes on to tell us how he used many of the same devices in South Africa`s Boer War. Unbelievavable adventure and all of it true.

This man is the least known of America's 19th Century men of great accomplishment. A western scout and adventurer who makes his mark big time, participating in some of history's great stories, like the Pleasant Valley War, the Apache Wars, the Klondike gold strikes in North America, and the Zulu Wars and Boer War in South Africa. This book is autobiographical, but without the usual boasting found in books of this sort. Burnham recounts history as he experienced it, sometimes in his self effacing way portraying himself and just one of the guys, while doing amazing things. Looking for a hero you didn't know about, read of the life of Major Francis Russell Burnham.

I have been an intense outdoorsman all my life. I have had some interesting adventures along the way on several continents. However.....While reading this autobiography I was reminded of my profound sense of inadequacy, respect and sadly envy as when I read Pringle's Biography of Mr. President Theodor Roosevelt. Mr. Burnham's life was extremely large, risk soaked and significant on a world stage scale. Not as large or profound as Mr. Roosevelt, but dancing with much more imminent personal mortal danger. Reminiscent of Gentleman Jim Corbett, electrifying and almost superhuman exploits are related calmly, truthfully and with a matter of fact detailed manner throughout. I would have so enjoyed swapping tales and sharing a few scotches and/or beers over a campfire with all three gentleman plus Mr C Selous and a few others. Read this book and be amazed! Hope to meet them all on the other side. See you soon gents!

A customer of mine is of the Blick family and relative of Burnham who lent me his "loaner copy" which having read completely, I then purchased an identical 1923 edition.I'm now three quarters through the second reading and am completely amazed of his very full life.A movie on this person could not possibly show all his challenges much less three movies n all his exploits.

While the old Werewolf tribe book series was, for the most part, very well done, the current revised editions of both the Black Fury and Bone Gnawer books were improvements of the original books on both the respective tribes. Sadly, that trend did not continue with the Children of Gaia, the one tribe book I really would have wanted to see an improvement with. The previous book did not do much to enamour me to the tribe, as the author seemed to be writing as if they were mostly a tribe of free-loving hippies, and while there isn't anything wrong with that in and of itself, it does seem to jibe uncomfortably with the whole concept of being a Rage-filled Garou. As such, the new book could (and does) shatter many of the stereotypes provided by the previous book.Of course, the authors instead chose to weld the book around a narrative of a pack of Children, and this is where the book falls a bit short. White Wolf can do narrative books effecively, as seen in the revised Mage Tradition books, but they can also fall flat, as seen in the previous edition Tradition books. This one falls flat with a group of Children having issues vaguely defined, which is probably OK as the characters themselves were vaguely defined, and with the exception of the homosexual Ahroun, the group was fairly interchangeable in many respects. What character traits that were present were poorly defined in a couple cases and in others distracting (you mean the very angry Metis was the pack Theurge?!?). Character perspective flips around at the drop of a hat, you can never tell who is present for any given scene, and there even seems to be a hint that the convoluted short story at the beginning of the book was enough to let the reader know who was who and what they could do (it isn't). The overall effect of this distracted me from what should have been the meat of the book: the Children as a tribe and the issues that effect it. It can be difficult to follow the book's pupose if the author's are digressing all the time into the love lives of various characters.

Before I start, I wish to make it very clear that the Children of Gaia are my favorite Werewolf tribe. I was highly anticipating this Tribebook, especially considering how the others had wonderful improvements. And was I disappointed.Problem #1: The dialogue. As has been mentioned in previous reviews, it fell right on it's face. It wasn't engaging and it focused far too much on the problems of two characters... problems which had basically nothing to do with Garou society. My advice to the author was to save the dialogue for books that didn't have a limit of 100 pages. He had two chapters of the book as it was to introduce, characterize, and make interesting five characters. It would take a lot more talent than the author displayed in the book to do all that and get necessary information in.Problem #2: Rite of the Clouds and Rain. Pure and simple. While I understand that the Children of Gaia are more laid back (pun not intented!) when it comes to the first law of the Litany, they would *not* make a rite that so blatantly spits in the Litany's face.Problem #3: Lack of Auspice information. The author did not forget to put this is in, and it was not a misprint. I know from the author himself from the forums on the White Wolf site that he *cut* this information out. I'm sorry, but so much of that dialogue should have been cut before the auspice information. There is not a single touch of it, even though one of the sections is titled "Breeds and Auspices". You can only get this information in the fairly newly released book "Book of Auspices".Problem #4: And this is perhaps what irks me the most. The Children of Gaia are out for peace... *among the tribes*. They do not stamp around going into how the Wyrm does not need to be fought. This was actually very nicely represented in the comic preluding the original tribebook. This tribebook does *not* support that. It does not support the Children of Gaia being warriors at all except in a few little snippits of the book. This saddens me because it is the worst stereotype about the Children of Gaia, and it held through to this book that was supposed to bash it to the ground. The Children of Gaia fight... and when they get their hackles raised, watch out cause they're deadly. The other tribebooks say this fact more than the Children of Gaia one, and that's just wrong.Problem #5: The intro fiction had a Crinos Garou running through crowded Seattle. Uh, no.On the other hand, I did like some of the new gifts and the idea of making a staff the weapon of choice for the Children of Gaia as it can take down an opponent without doing deadly damage... at least to most Garou. However, it does not make up for what the book lacks. I do not reccommend the book in the least. Spend your money on the other tribebooks.

The original tribebook for Children of Gaia was very well done. This one has horrible. The original tribebook made you want to play a Child; this one drives you away from it. As Tom says, the dialogue was lame and the Children just seem like a bunch of slackers. The back of the book section, with new gifts, feats, etc. has very little of worth to add.If you don't have the previous book, then sure, get it. Otherwise, avoid.

Larkin’s energetic illustrations reflect both hard work outdoors and the delicious results on a table loaded with good food."— "Starred" review, School Library Journal"A timely topic for eco-minded youngsters and future agriculturalists."—"Best Books 2013 Nonfiction," School Library Journal“Will Allen can see / what others can’t see. / When he sees kids, he sees farmers." Martin begins and ends with this positive premise. In between, she sketches salient events that stoked Allen’s commitment to empowering people to grow their own food. Raised in a food-loving family that grew and shared its own, Will eschewed weeding and picking for college and a move to Belgium to play pro basketball, where he continued gardening on the side. He brought an acumen for growing veggies home to Milwaukee and saw that “fresh vegetables / were as scarce in the city / as trout in the desert.” Will bought a polluted city lot and created compost from food waste, aided by red wiggler worms. He taught kids and teens to farm and traveled the world with his message. Martin’s verse text, laced with word bursts in ebullient display type, engages both readers and listeners. In his picture-book debut, Larkin provides mixed-media cityscapes that, eventually, brim with the fruits of Allen’s labor and match Will’s exuberance and spirit of community. This worthy collaboration reveals how one man’s vision of food for all has inspired an amazing life of service.”—Kirkus, "Featured Kids' Book Review"“This lively introduction to Will Allen’s groundbreaking work (for which he’s received a MacArthur Foundation “Genius” grant) features a buoyant narrative by Jacqueline Briggs Martin set against Eric-Shabazz Larkin’s energetic illustrations. It’s impossible not to be inspired by their account of the creativity of Will’s venture and the hope inherent in its success.”—Cooperative Children’s Book Center, “Recommended Book of the Week"“The book is a beautiful tribute not just to its hero Will Allen but also to the right of every child to have access to good, healthy, cheap food. The ultimate picture book about muncha muncha muncha...While we talk about the rise in obesity levels in the United States, it just makes sense to talk about how economics affect access to healthy alternatives. And part of what makes Farmer Will Allen such a good story is that it draws that connection without getting anywhere near a soapbox...Fun and informative by turns, raise a carrot or cabbage in honor of this awesome dude and his equally awesome tale."—Elizabeth Bird, School Library Journal’s “Fuse #8 Production” Blog“Rating: Outstanding. Will Allen deserves this compelling biography so aptly rendered by author Jacqueline Briggs Martin and illustrator Eric-Shabazz Larkin’s ink and pen artistry…The use of questions (e.g., “But how could Will farm in the middle of pavement and parking lots?”) and of large colorful fonts to emphasize key phrases (e.g., Fish. Water. Sprouts. Farm Machine) provide a conversational tone that is further brought to life by thoughtful and vibrant illustrations of multicultural communities and the nutritious foods they are growing. An afterword from Allen about good food and good farming, an author’s note about the power of one person to affect so much change, and a current, concise list of resources finish off this inspiring story. Readers to Eaters Books has another winning title on their hands.—Bayviews, Association of Children's Librarians of Northern California"An inspiring non-fiction picturebook...The text is formatted as an engaging narrative punctuated by questions, dialog, and information. The illustrations add enthusiastic color mixed in bold patches and active linework to create lovely textured backgrounds that subtly become more saturated over the course of the story. The characters stand out as almost flat with cartoon-like simplicity that allows them to shift dynamically from page to page, creating an almost universal field of helping hands. Concluding with the motivational question, “How big will YOUR table be?”—Reading Today, International Reading Association“The text is clear, concise, informative and lively. The illustrations expand upon the text and just naturally seem to draw in the reader… It is ideal for the emerging reader, the older reluctant reader, and also for a middle school or high school classroom or community group discussion of urban farming, community cooperation, and role models…Both text and illustrations encourage discussion. Every time I open this book, I see and read more and more.”—CLCD, Children’s Literature Comprehensive Database“Farmer Will Allen and the Growing Table beautifully captures his ambitious belief in growing the next generation of alternative farmers, good eaters, and community self-reliance. This book is an ideal companion for school garden educators and for parents wanting to make gardening relevant to kids. I'd also recommend it for social change activists since the book makes complex social enterprise ideas into practical, tactile steps.”—Richard McCarthy, Executive Director, Slow Food USA“Farmer Will Allen and the Growing Table is an inspirational story that highlights the importance of healthy, homegrown food and the importance of civic engagement. Will Allen’s story serves as an educational tool for children to recognize how important it is to be able to access healthy food and revitalize urban spaces. Will is a champion for this message, and is a living example of how one person can change a city.”—Mayor Tom Barrett, Milwaukee

Got this book when Will Allen was coming to town for a book signing. He wrote a really sweet note to our daughter on the inside cover. Our daughter is not even two yet, but she still loves this book and the bright colors and all the foods and things she can name. I also think because it's such a feel-good (and true) story, she can sense there is greatness in this book. It's the only book with a lot of writing that she will sit through until the end (it has more writing in it than her other favorite books like "The Monster at the End of this Book" and the Llama, Llama series, for example. But not so much writing as books for much older children). And I am excited to discuss it with her as she gets older, because it is a book that encourages hard work and dedication to dreams, which I think are excellent ideas to instill in young minds.

This is a good topic for ReadAloud with elementary age kids. It's so easy to find good, boring biographies. It's hard to find a biography about someone who is contemporary and overcoming issues that are fresher and more relative to the kids. Madam Curie and Thomas were very important people, but so is Will Allen. The book is colorful and interesting. When I read it to the kids, we used it as a springboard for a lot of other topics like alternative gardening and caring about others.

This is a delightful children's book, gracefully written by Jacqueline Briggs Martin and imaginatively illustrated by Eric-Shabazz Larkin. In clear, inclusive language, Martin traces the life of Mr. Allen. Raised by parents who were involved in sharecropping, he fought most of his early life to escape farming. He pursued a career in professional basketball but found a passion later in life for agriculture. He bought the last remaining land zoned for agricultural use in the city of Milwaukee, and he started an urban farm and community food center there that brings fresh, nutritious vegetables and fish to inner-city neighborhoods that lack healthy options.Martin and Larkin's book makes Mr. Allen's story accessible for a young audience. Both the author and the illustrator capture the spirit of inclusiveness that is the hallmark of Mr. Allen's work: black, white, Asian, young and old, are all shown working together, led by Mr. Allen's vision of a better food system. The book ends with a call for action among its young readers, along with a beautiful illustration by Mr. Larkin of a New York of the future, with gardens and trees on every rooftop. Ms. Martin writes: "Will Allen can see what others can't see. When he sees kids, he sees farmers. Will you be on Will Allen's crew? Will you grow vegetables for your family, your neighbors, on your porch, or roof, or yard? How big will your table be?" The generous spirit behind this book will inspire many young people to embrace Mr. Allen's vision.

A good person with a fantastic idea but the story writing is meh. I added a lot of support and background to the story to engage my first graders.

Beautiful book. Inspiring story. I first saw this book at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. i donated it to my granddaughter's school library.

An excellent story through a vivid reality model provides pertinent information regarding healthy living. Quite unique way to demonstrate problem solving to children. Excellent and powerful art examples for all to enjoy.

we need more people like this thinking outside the box to help the community and mankind.

Terrific book. Timely subject. Well written

Great book by a superb writer and thinker. A must read for anyone who wants to do more than pretend to be a Christian.

Dietrich Bonheoffer is a deeply spiritual man who lived what he spoke. He also wrote the Cost of Discipleship which is wonderful read and I go back and read it again, often. The translation process may be a little difficult for some to read Ethics but it is really worth the read. Don't plan to hurry through this book; you will probably want to meditate on many of his thoughts. I am very thankful for this man and for the life that he lived.

Content 5++ stars. This is vintage Bonhoeffer: insightful, challenging, thought provoking. Highly recommend this. The Fortress Works of Bonhoeffer far and away the best editions. There is lot of material here about the background and ordering (as it was unfinished at Bonhoeffer's death). A gold mine. Nearly 600 pages, so not a small book.Took away one star for the poor quality binding and paper (expect more from Fortress - their NT Wright volumes are bound to last 100 years). For a paperback that is this expensive, you expect better quality paper, at least you expect WHITE paper! The paper is coarse, yellow and not inviting at all. The kindle edition are also hampered by poor formatting. This is sad as excellent electronic versions are available from a major Bible study company (think word...).Overall- Content is EXCELLENT- Binding is not likely to last prolonged use (bound like a pulp fiction not an enduring classic it is)- kindle edition is annoying - use a better electronic edition.

This is a great work by Bonhoeffer that I purchased for a paper, but will likely dig into for pleasure reading soon. It has compelling arguments and keeps me thinking.

What can you say - it's Bonfoeffer. It is a must read for clergy and anyone interested in Ethics - specifically Christian Ethics.

This is a great book that details how difficult it is to be ethical in a corrupt world.

Even for a textbook this was hard to read... but that's just Bonhoeffer so there's not much to do about it.

Great insight concerning true biblical ethics. Bonhoeffer does not just share theology but practical knowledge to be applied to daily living.

Review

“Men far too often ignore, or are too afraid to discuss, their private health concerns. Dr. Spitz to the rescue. Dr. Spitz is here to answer all of the questions you've ever had surrounding the mystery of your genitals.”—Dr. Travis Stork, #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Lose Your Belly Diet and Emmy Award-nominated TV Talk Show Host of The Doctors“From our first season, Dr. Aaron Spitz has been the go-to expert for topics below the belt on The Doctors television show. His wit and expertise have provided not only laughter but learning and help for many people about taboo topics. In this book, he answers any and all questions about the penis with the humor and simplicity that have made him one of our audience favorites. This book is a wonderful resource for anyone with a penis or for anyone who knows someone with a penis.” —Andrew P. Ordon, MD, F.A.C.S., Plastic Surgeon, and Emmy Award-nominated TV Talk Show Host of The Doctors“A man’s guide to understanding his own intimate machinery, this book is raucous, honest, scientifically accurate, and a must-read. Only Dr. Aaron Spitz could combine his unique brand of humor with a thorough knowledge of urology. I am sure this enlightening book will find its way to many night tables both here and abroad.”—Larry I. Lipshultz, M.D., Professor of Urology, Chief of Division of Male Reproductive Medicine and Surgery, Scott Department of Urology, Baylor College of Medicine“Dr. Spitz has written a book that answers all the questions people are thinking about but are afraid to ask. He has a simple, humorous way of explaining things which makes it an easy read for all.” —Stanton Honig, MD, Director of Men’s Health at Yale Medicine Urology “Dr. Spitz blends meticulously referenced science with provocative humor to educate the reader about everything penis. The text also relays the crucial point that sexual health translates to general health and vice versa. This state of the art reference book for the penis deservingly earns its place next to the dictionary.”—Tobias S. Köhler, MD, MPH, Mayo Clinic“Dr. Spitz’s The Penis Book is a valuable resource to patients and providers alike, providing important contemporary insight to penile health as a marker of overall health and other men’s health issues in 2018. Men who read this book will have a new sense of understanding of their body, and women who read the book will appreciate the frank, open discussion of this often misunderstood male anatomy, leading to overall better relations between men and women. As he does on The Doctors show on TV, Dr. Spitz offers straightforward explanations of various male issues and has become one of the leading men’s health experts in America.” —Jason Jameson, MD, Urologist and Men’s Health Specialist, Mayo Clinic, Phoenix AZ“Dr. Aaron Spitz is a brilliant urologist who comprehensively tackles this topic with both clarity and humor. His insightful advice will prove to be highly informative for male and female readers alike.” —Robert E. Brannigan, MD, Professor of Urology at the Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University“The Penis Book is an amusing read while also an exhaustive reference source on man’s best friend. The chapter on pornography alone is worth the purchase price.” —Steven K. Wilson, MD, FACS, FRCS, Editor-In-Chief of ISSM Video Journal of Prosthetic Urology“The Penis Book tells the facts and exposes the fiction about the penis, its anatomy and function, in a casual, comfortable manner understandable by all. At a time where the internet makes so many men feel they must be lacking, this little book tells the big story of what can be done to help when there is an issue with the penis, what shouldn’t be done as it might do harm, and what safe and effective treatments are currently available for sexual health concerns. As a sexual medicine physician for almost 40 years, I applaud Aaron Spitz for writing such a readable book to educate men (and their partners) everywhere so that an enjoyable sex life can be maintained.”—Irwin Goldstein, MD, Director of Sexual Medicine, Alvarado Hospital, Clinical Professor of Surgery at the University of California at San Diego, and Director of San Diego Sexual Medicine“Perhaps no other organ in the body is surrounded by so much myth, fascination, and misinformation. Dr. Spitz, a well-respected urologist in the field of men’s sexuality and infertility, has succeeded in providing men and women with a practical user’s manual that can actually be read with great interest from cover to cover. This book provides serious medical advice in an accurate and engaging, yet detailed, dialogue. I congratulate the author for setting the record straight and answering questions that many people have been afraid to ask.”—Edward D. Kim, MD, Professor of Urology at the University of Tennessee Graduate School of Medicine“The Penis Book by Dr. Aaron Spitz is one of those rare examples of how humor and sarcasm can help with learning a complex subject such as the human penis. While the butt of many jokes (pun intended), the penis is a fascinating organ, something that men are typically fixated on from birth until death. Dr. Spitz does an incredible job of educating the reader about all things penis, from how it works to how/why it doesn’t work. The book is broken up into sections that make sense, and the reader is taken through the entire sexual process. He has several chapters on penile health (and how you can improve it), as well as a section on problems of the penis, including the very timely topic of gender identity and the role of the penis. His writing style is just like his speaking style, somewhat sarcastic, extremely funny, and very well informed. This book is geared towards the layperson, but health care professionals will find it very useful as well. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to know more about the inner workings of a very complex, although often underestimated, organ. This should be on everyone’s coffee table.”—Jay Sandlow, MD, Professor and Vice-Chairman of the Department of Urology, Medical College of Wisconsin“The Penis Book is truly a great read for men (and women) to understand the often wondered, but too embarrassed to ask, questions about The Organ. Dr. Spitz has done an amazing job of explaining all of the functions and dysfunctions of the male sexual and reproductive organs to readers with his use on humor, metaphor, and slang. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in the subject.”—Edward Karpman, MD, FACS, Men's Health, Male Reproductive and Sexual Medicine, Microsurgery at El Camino Urology Medical Group, Inc.“The Penis Book is a humorous and informative guide to a man’s most precious organ. Read it if you have always wanted to understand how the penis works, what causes sexual and other problems, and how to treat them. Most of all, you can learn at last the connection between the big head and the little head.”—Stephanie Buehler, PsyD, CST-S, author of What Every Mental Health Professional Needs to Know about Sex“Let me start by saying that the penis is funny! What many do not know about Aaron Spitz, MD, Chief Representative for America’s Urologists to the American Medical Association, is that he once was a stand-up comedian and a good one. This adjunct to his training courses smoothly through The Penis Book, making it a must read for anyone who finds the penis both funny and essential. From the “fake news” on circumcision and penile enlargement to the rational treatments for anejaculation and erectile dysfunction, Dr. Spitz nails it! I have seen more penis than most during my career and this book will remain on my desk as both a reference and a joy to re-read.”—Paul E Perito, MD FACS, Program Director and Chief Surgeon PeritoUrology, Center for Prosthetic Surgery, Coral Gables Hospital“Aaron Spitz has given us an accurate and entertaining review on everything anyone might want to know about the penis. It covers topics from the biological development of the organ to normal function as well as a variety of dysfunctions. It is a welcome addition to the very limited available literature published for the lay public on the penis. I especially like his humorous approach to these subjects, while at the same time addressing each topic with a level of expertise which is easy to understand. This book contains loads of useful information that clarifies and debunks many of the myths about the penis. Although it may be a difficult book to leave on the coffee table, it will be a useful addition to one’s personal library.”—Laurence A. Levine, MD, Professor of Urology, Rush University Medical Center“There is never an honest and “basic” conversation about male sexual issues. The Penis Book by Dr. Aaron Spitz fixes that. A complete medical, humorous and occasionally racey/risqué look at the subject is easy to read, uses words that most men use and understand (let’s be honest). Even I as a male reproductive and sex specialist learnt something! If guys were to sit together drinking beer, like a bunch of urologists, maybe the conversation about the issue would sound like Dr. Spitz’s book. Dr. Spitz is one of the smartest and funniest human beings I know and no surprise his book is just the same. I recommend the book to any man to learn about their body in private or clinician to educate their patients. Well done!”—Ajay K. Nangia MBBS, FACS, Professor and Vice Chair, Director of Andrology, Department of Urology, University of Kansas Health System

Let me start by saying the penis is funny! I have spent much of my life thinking about my litte friend without really thinking thoughtfully and understanding. This book changed all that and now I understand. Dr. Spitz's knowledge and sense of humor makes this technical book as easy a read as a novel. Dr. Spitz's wit flows throughout the pages and I found my self laughing out loud as I read it. The technical information is presented clearly and the diagrams are easy to understand. I wish I had know this information in my youth. This book is amazing.

I worked with Dr Spitz for 10 years in the "wonderful world of Urology". It's a world of mystery for a lot of people, especially for men. They aren't as tuned into their body parts like women are and this well written, funny, educational book will eliminate the unknown for the most part. There are so many facets to the penis that men don't know & their partners, if female, have no clue about. This book is a MUST READ for men & women...the world would be a happier place if there was a better understanding of all that makes it work & not work and everything in between. Dr Spitz is not like most doctors. He takes his time to make sure each patient leaves his office more informed than when they came in...and they may get a few laughs as a bonus. By writing this book, he is sharing all his knowledge & some humor, to answer so many questions you were afraid to ask or didn't know how to ask. So buckle your seat belts, put on your safety goggles & enjoy the ride!!!

This book has been a huge help and very informative for me and my family. I suffer from ED only being 22 and I guess my dad got it when he was 40(yay me) so it’s been very helpful. Also helped with just the health of my body and penis in general and premature ejaculation. I wish it would let me rate it 10 stars. So far the Urologist I have seen only know about, well urology problems(pee etc) but nothing when it comes to functionality. I got an appointment with him but it was months out(no wonder why) so I’m seeing my dads dr for the moment(Dr K) who although is nice only seems to know about urinary issues and cancer and prescribed pills so if this doesn’t get better from the book hopefully can get an appointment with him.

The Penis Book, by Aaron Spitz, M.D.Review by Doug Wolven, patientErectile Dysfunction, ED-the phrase on every advertiser's lips is sand lot to the major league job of covering what makes Mr. Happy happy…and active. Aaron Spitz, M.D. covers it all in 284 pages in The Penis Book-and it's illustrated! Blood flow, bicycle seats, big head & little head, diabetes, diet, exercise, flow of blood, dysmorphic disorder, dopamine, ginseng, heart disease, meds ending in -olol, nitric oxide, Peyronie's disease (disorder), preaprism, traction, and vascular flow-and if I missed it-blood flow are a few of the hundreds of points Spitz covers. If you've got one, you need to read this thorough-going, exhaustive book-The Penis Book.

All men should read this book. There is so much to learn and to understand. Dr. Spitz makes the material very easy to understand and has a great sense of humor presenting what can sometimes be an uncomfortable subject to discuss. I highly recommend this book.

Excellent book. I now know a lot more about my own anatomy. And I am eating lots of leafy greens.

Even though I have a good layman's understanding of mens health, I learned a lot from this book. It's comprehensive, authoritative, and well written. Highly recommended.

I found this book while cruising around Amazon looking for a book to give my online library class students. Wowee! Did I hit the jackpot. This book is crammed full of ideas and enthusiasm and is practical! TRANSFORMING LIBRARIES should be required reading for every person who works in a school library and all teachers AND ADMINISTRATORS! And Ron Starker is a great guy, too! You'll love this book!

Love this book! It is a must have for all people wanting to transform their libraries.

Ron practices what he preaches. This book is a testament to all that he has accomplished with the libraries at Singapore American School. His advice is an inspiration and his humor is refreshing. I really loved chapter 23 titled, "Just Do It" because our perceived barriers stop us from ever getting started. Ron encourages you to just jump in - make it happen. This book is excellent for both librarians, but also classroom teachers and school leaders.

This long awaited book from a champion of innovative libraries brings together the ideas, learnings and wisdom from more than 20 years of reinventing modern libraries. More than a theoretical guide, Ron Starker provides real life anecdotal evidence of not only where libraries have come from, but more importantly, a roadmap for where libraries should be heading if they are to remain relevant tomorrow. Essential reading for both new and experienced librarians, and anyone interested in understanding the importance of thoughtful and reflective innovations in our centers of collaboration, creativity and learning.

Reading Ron Starker’s TRANSFORMING LIBRARIES is an inspirational, thought provoking, sometimes guilt creating, but always interesting trip. It’s the history of his own move from old school librarian to the open, curious, always growing media specialist he sees as the necessary professional in today’s schools. His approach to serving the community moves me, a school counselor, to look to possibilities in my own field that will make me more involved in the lives of our kids and is a reminder to be open to new ideas. He reminds us that an adventure in change is seldom easy, but that this shouldn’t stop us from taking the steps – even if we have to backtrack from time to time.In life Ron is the creative, persistent experimenter of his book – it’s a creation with real legs and soul.Mark SwarstadMiddle School CounselorSingapore American School

This is an excellent and highly practical source. Starker brings years of experience to the task of writing up a sort of tool kit for librarians. This is highly recommended

The SAS Middle School library is inspirational and aspirational - every square meter for learning intentionally designed to intrigue...if you didn't enter curious you will become so very quickly. Creativity flourishes and your senses are immediately engaged. There is a place for everyone. Through this book Ron provides us not only with pragmatic advice and tools to do things maybe a little differently in a library, but also with the courage to do so. Have a go...see what happens...it might just be amazing. This library is.

Transforming Libraries is a fascinating and stimulating read, presenting individuals with a unique insight into one of the most important issues facing our schools and education system today.
