His plans are dashed when his parents reveal that Cucumber is the latest in a line of Legendary Heroes and it is his destiny to save The Doughnut Kingdom and Dreamside from the Nightmare Knight.While Cucumber appreciates the predicament, he'd much rather go to magic school and leave saving the world to literally anyone else. Luckily (or perhaps not) Cucumber's younger sister Almond is all about adventure, swords, and fighting so she is more than ready to drag Cucumber along on this epic quest.Saving the kingdom won't be easy when allies include a hapless Dream Oracle and a knight armed with little more than charm and a flimsy spear. The quest will take both young rabbits far from home as they travel across Dreamside to gather the tools they need to save the day.Cucumber Quest: The Doughnut Kingdom is a great introduction to D. G.'s vivid and bizarre world (which started life as a webcomic before the volumes were collected by First:Second) as Cucumber and Almond embark on their journey to try and stop the Nightmare Knight. The adventure continues in Cucumber Quest: The Ripple Kingdom when (spoiler) the Nightmare Knight does in fact return and he and his minions need to be stopped--one kingdom at a time.The first book includes a great map of The Doughnut Kingdom (shown above) and trading card style intros for all of the characters. Volume Two's bonus material has more character trading cards and a tourist guide to Cucumber and Almond's next stop: The Ripple Kingdom. D. G. uses a surprisingly color palette that is bright without being jarring. The comic panels are dynamic and filled with amazingly expressive characters.These comics are zany and incredibly clever. The cast is filled with strong characters including the mysterious thief, Saturday, and the charmingly forgetful Princess Nautilus. Then of course there's Almond, the girl who would happily save the world if only any of the adults in Dreamside would let her. Cucumber astutely engages with a lot of the obvious flaws in quest stories (How is Cucumber really the best choice for this? Why is it so easy to resurrect the Nightmare Knight anyway? What's up with his dad in that cell?) while also embodying everything that makes quest stories so fun (reluctant hero! adventure! mayhem!).I can't wait to see what happens when Cucumber, Almond, and the rest of their team head to The Ripple Kingdom.

The writing of the princess was very strange at the beginning, almost like the author made a mistake and needed to cover it up really fast? But I didn't see anything problematic in this one so that makes it better than the first. I'm enjoying the way the author thinks outside of the box on every page. I also really love the visual elements.

Every single character is *adorable*. The heroes, the NPCs, the villains--every one has depth beyond their role in the story, and you will love them. (Or at least love to hate them. Sir Tomato.)

Before I start on my review for Cucumber Quest: The Ripple Kingdom, I want to go ahead and say I loved Cucumber Quest: The Donut Kingdom and wanted to learn more about these characters as soon as I had finished it.Cucumber Quest: The Ripple Kingdom immediately picks up where volume 1 left off. Cucumber, the young bun forced to choose saving the world over continuing his education, wakes alone on an island without his sister Almond or their companion, Sir Carrot. Cucumber finds Princess Nautilus, and after helping her escape the clutches of some crab bros, she offers her own assistance in finding his lost companions. Meanwhile, Almond wakes to find she is in the lair of the evil Splashmaster, unable to break free. Cucumber and Nautilus work together to save Almond, along with Sir Carrot and Queen Conch.Just like the first volume, The Ripple Kingdom is full of humor. Characters make faces that don’t quite fit in with the cute art style. Common sense isn’t always the voice of reason. And poor Cucumber, you can’t help feeling sorry for him. Each volume comes with fun extras at the back too, where characters from both good and bad sides answer questions. I’ve always been a big fan of character development and how they interact with readers, so these extra bits at the end are some of my favorites.Cucumber Quest also has amazing art. Gigi D.G. is so talented and has an incredibly unique style. I especially love how the cutesy art can be twisted depending on the situation. Nautilus is a prime example of this, as she made all sorts of faces when asked the tough questions. Many times I find myself just staring at the art, studying the textures and color blends. It is incredibly nice, and I hope to buy physical copies of the books in the future so I can reread the stories and admire the art over and over again.The next volume of Cucumber Quest is already available on NetGalley, and because I’ve enjoyed the series so much, I anticipate I’ll be reviewing it soon. This series is fun for all ages!

As a long-time fan of D.G.’s work, I’m up to speed with the webcomic, but jumped at the chance to own physical copies and support the artist!! First off, the artwork is phenomenal; the style is adorable, and the artist uses unique coloring/shading techniques and uses lots of colors! You can tell D.G. very experienced and quite talented! And not only is the art great, but D.G is also a wonderful story teller!! The characters are adorable, comical, and bear relatable qualities and depth, as any good story should have! It might be unbearable to wait for the next chapter, but the story is well worth the wait! (If you really can’t wait, you could always read the webcomic, as it’s much farther ahead, but I still recommend you get the physical copies too!) The physical comics also are bundled with some neat concept art and bonus content!! A delight for fans like me!!! So if you’re looking for some great content, look no further! This is unifying and economic at the same time. Moreover, time and again I have found that many "modern" concerns in equilibrium and nonequilibrium statistical mechanics, like, for instance, the issue about the equilibration of quantum many-particle systems, echoes opinions and insights already stated in this textbook. Everytime I pick my copy to take a glance I realize how puny such acclaimed books like L. Reichl's or the new M. Okay, it is really my son who wanted and loves this book. He absolutely swears by the Landau and Lifshitz (sp?) series.

This book covers a lot of material in a fairly straightforward order - but it's very dense and not a lot of helpful examples. Good for reference, but Pathria is probably better if you're going through grad level stat mech for the first time.

This book is a classic, especially in the sense it is somewhat old fashioned in its basic approaches when compared with newer books. For example it examines statistics and entropy from the ergodic as opposed to the ensemble approach. Information Theory and role of symmetry and symmetry breaking is not treated in detail. However I can't hold these omissions against the book since these developments happend mostly in the late 70s.What Landau does here, and which in explicably very few Statistical Mechanics books do nowadays, is the full Gibbs Formalism. Not only is the Gibbs Formalism more compatible with Quantum Mechanics, it can also fits in beautifully with Ensemble Statistics and Inofrmation Theory. More over, it is at once clear Maxwell and Boltzmann statistics are only special cases of the Gibbs formalism, and can be easily shown in a few lines.What Landau does, is to gave an elegant and cohesive view the trully fundamental features of Statistical Mechanics. Chapters 1-6 of this book alone displays a deeper level of understanding than whole books that have been written. If you are interested in Statistical Mechanics at all, this must be a centerpiece of your library.

Jean brings over 25 years of experience in software development to the agile plate in a variety of organizational contexts including internal IT departments, ISVs, government agencies, and consulting organizations. Having implemented both plan-driven and agile development approaches for Sybase, Siebel Systems, and Qwest, as well as a variety of smaller ventures, her work has spanned industries and continents. As I move from an engineering role into more of a leadership role, this is the first book I've read on facilitation, and it has become a valuable resource in my tool box. As one reviewer said, some of the information provided could be considered obvious; and I would add "unless it's not obvious for somebody new to facilitation". Good book to have on your shelf if you're in a servant-leadership position, like a Scrum Master or an Agile Coach.

This book stands out as one of my favorites on how to really build collaborative teams, and to build consensus. It is full of real-world examples and specific techniques. This is a hard topic to tackle, and I believe that the authors write from experience.The techniques in this book are not just for "Agile" project managers. They can be applied to many different teams on how to facilitate and develop collaboration in meetings, better decisions through consensus, and generally gain team commitment.

Tabaka's book is part of an ongoing series on the use of the Agile software development process. It deals with a key idea of involving participants to the fullest extent. The word collaboration is used to describe this idea. The book is directed at someone who has to manage this process. Someone in a supervisory capacity. Though of course the book could be usefully read by anyone else involved.The book has many suggestions. About such tasks as conducting status meetings during the project. Or how to distinguish between a good meeting and a bad meeting. Or supervising small group work. The advice is entirely about the human element. And not about any specific software tools or languages. If you are a supervisor from a programming background, it could be the human element aspects that you are most in need of advice about.Naturally, the text also has numerous instances of how to deal with what it calls Agile Practices. Yet you might not need to adhere to the latter to still derive gain from the book. There is no need to buy into some or indeed any of the Agile Practices. Much of the book has useful advice (like the example above of the good and bad meetings) that is germane to whatever overarching development process you already have in place. Er, you do have one in place, don't you?

This product is required reading for the North Carolina Real Estate Examination. The Book was written by several highly respected real estate brokers- however, the book does not necessarily connect with someone who is transitioning from one career to another. The book is not laid out in which it makes sense. The Basics are advanced, and the advanced is not detailed enough. If you purchase this out of necessity, please ensure that you grab the accompanying CD or the Practice text & Exam Questions. This will help you get your mind into the real estate land.

An earlier edition of this reference book was the text used by my pre-licensing instructor. Now that I'm licensed, I still keep an updated version on my reference bookshelf. It is simply a must have resource for any agent who dares to practice real estate in today's ever-more complex regulatory environment. I buy an updated copy at least every three year. In a profession which even the National Association of REALTORS® says is hobbled by incompetence and unethical behavior, "Modern Real Estate Practice" is a guiding light.

Superior School of Real Estate in NC is known for their great pass rate and so I ordered the book because they require that you read the first three chapters before you start the class. They prefer an earlier edition to the same book I am using but I have been told that the newest just has more info to help you study. I plan to start the class in May. I am very nervous and don't know what to expect. So, anyway I started reading and I am on Chapter 2 which seems forever long. I wish that particular chapter had been broken up but other than that I like the book so far and it came quickly with no problem.

Has some errors in it and we've only gotten through Unit 7 so far. Our teacher has called the REC though so maybe they will be getting it fixed for future print runs.

I actually bought this book mainly for the FREE Test Building software. I was impressed the first time that I had used the 1.0 CD. You can make and take a practice test with up to 23 different real estate topics. There is close to 600 questions with answer explanations. The Software automatically keeps track of your test scores and the date that you had completed them. I just finished an exam with ONLY one question and it was still recorded in my "exam history."The program was designed to only cover about 75% of the computer monitor and will NOT maximize. This book has a lot of information. It was not all necessary to pass the exam but is knowledge that all real estate professionals should know. I'm sure I will continue to refer to it for years to come. I recommend purchasing this.

This book really helped me pass my exam first try! I would highly recommend getting this book...unless you want to take the exam multiple times.
