This book is crammed full of ideas and enthusiasm and is practical! TRANSFORMING LIBRARIES should be required reading for every person who works in a school library and all teachers AND ADMINISTRATORS! And Ron Starker is a great guy, too! You'll love this book!

Love this book! It is a must have for all people wanting to transform their libraries.

Ron practices what he preaches. This book is a testament to all that he has accomplished with the libraries at Singapore American School. His advice is an inspiration and his humor is refreshing. I really loved chapter 23 titled, "Just Do It" because our perceived barriers stop us from ever getting started. Ron encourages you to just jump in - make it happen. This book is excellent for both librarians, but also classroom teachers and school leaders.

It is quite comprehensive and probably not suited for the beginning practitioner.For many, this work may raise more questions than it answers.However, this reformation of approach to fitness training and the healing arts is nothing short of genius.Granted, as comprehensive as 'Movement' is, when you have finished reading you are not even half way down the rabbit hole.There is a series of tools available for you to begin to master the processes of correctives.Personally, after being a fitness professional for over 20 years I have thoroughly incorporated the concepts from this book and FMS certification into my practice. I look forward to further research into the usage of the functional movement screen.Kudos to the author on his concepts and principles.

Great book!.Tons of content, but all of it is simplified to achieve a single goal, to move our bodies.This not a book with a list of corrective exercises, nor does it have an anatomy map to pick on isolated muscles.It's all about moving with full (normal) range of mothion in all joints, in all postures and positions.I would recomend this book to all trainers, PT's and coaches. Who want their clients to move faster, move efficiently, move for longevity and for rehab.

I think it's safe to say this book's verdict is out: it's excellent. There is gold here just in getting more ways to relate the concepts to patients/clients because Cook does a great job giving analogies. There is some repetition, but it feels like repeating key concepts and/or allowing chapters to stand on their own. It's not a book you just sit down and read. You have to take notes, think about what he's saying, and even take time to do more research. Cook's website movementbook.com has loads of supplemental information and getting certified in FMS allows you access to forums.I bought the Kindle version a couple of years ago, and I rebought the book to get the PDF version from the publisher's website (otpbooks.com). You get the Kindle and ePub formats as well for the same price. It's sometimes difficult to read textbooks in Kindle format, but it's nice to have there since it's smaller and more portable than an iPad. I think textbooks are better suited to stay in PDF format because the pictures and diagrams make sense.

Although the concepts of this book are nothing new, evaluating human movement, running this process through a filter like the FMS & SFMA forces us all to see things from a new perspective.Gray Cook takes the position of “using what works for you” and not “my way or the highway”, which is quite honestly one of the more appealing aspects of this “Movement “ approach! Thank you for standing up for what you believe in, leaning into the punches thrown at you from critics, and moving on with your principles!

Well writen, amazing assessments, good analysis for the body's most weakest link and easy to use tests.I bought it by coincidence without any clue, its really rich in information but I'm not sure about my skill its very new to me !To wrap it up you need to have a copy.

I would recommend this book to anyone interested in human movement patterns & wanting to look past the isolated ways anatomy is typically studied in higher education. Grey Cook connects functional movement patterns with intellectual/scientific knowledge and makes a strong argument for more cohesive analysis of human movement among various disciplines/professions. Maybe someday insurance policy writers will recognize these philosophies, so when someone comes in for back pain I don't have to work so hard to help them understand that neck/foot/whatever issues ARE related AND relevant!

I have a ton of respect for Gray Cook. I previously had a poor view of his methods, but it was seeing his system put to use by practitioners who find it as an easier way to increase their volume. (Hand on PT takes time... Attention reduces net profits)But as I am reading his book, it is apparent there are some other sound methods for looking at movement and tying that into better treatments.I will always run a hands on practice, but this book with also change me for the better.Thanks Gray,Shawn

I treated myself to this new book, and I'm glad I did. I'd never heard of Bea Brock, but she's clearly a talented rug hooker and designer. With a too-large collection of leftover strips of wool, I needed some inspiration to turn them into mats and chair seats. This book does the job! One look at the cover will give you an idea of all the beauty inside.

In the world of hooked rugs, it is hard to find images that are not traditional. This book shows outstanding, innovative and creative works. Also includes specific information on colors and tone ranges. Beautiful book!

Bea's book Scrappy Hooked Rugs is such an inspiration with it's delightful photos of finished rugs and witty humor. So glad that I purchased. Very informative and motivational book. Beautiful illustrations of incredible works of art created through rug hooking.The packaging was a bit flimsy and as a result the book arrived a bit crinkled but same has been remedied when pressed between other books.

This is not a tour guide nor is it a story of what to see in Bangkok if you go. But if you do go you will want to read it and maybe even have it with you. It is a deep dive into the world of the expat in Bangkok and how the city is seen from that perspective. But, the author does love the city and he shows his understanding through the comments he makes about the average Thai people encountered in his sojourn there. A very striking book.

Took up this book after reading his fascinating tale of the gambling scene in Macao.Can't think of any other author writing about south east Asia in such detail and with such authenticity. There is a weak point to Bangkok Days in that it just sort of peters out at the end. If something was resolved I missed itAnother aspect is it is a singular tutorial on Asian religious beliefs

This book is not so much about Bangkok as it is about how to survive soul-crushing loneliness. But the writing is superb.

The author's language is rich and imaginative. This is a rather disjointed collection of travel diaries which was a pleasure to delve into. There were at least a few insights worth highlighting for my future references.

Depressing

I visited Bangkok for the first time only weeks before reading this book, and really enjoyed following the adventures of Lawrence Osbourne in a small underworld community of foreign transplants to Bangkok. It's a travelogue, and nothing too momentous happens, but the sights, sounds, impressions, are beautifully narrated. I particularly enjoyed the naked honesty and self-irony Osbourne employs in describing some truly awkward moments. I laughed out loud many times, but also felt sad, engaged, and provoked at different times throughout this thoughtful story.

Through a weave of various stories, I received information about Bangkok and its interconnected streets and "citizens." I'm not sure if I liked the writing or the information I gathered since I am heading to Thailand.
