I'm still reading the book so I can't really say much at this time. Enjoying it so far.

I did NOT find On-Balance Volume to be an effective way to pick stocks, to do that you actually need to look at the ticker tape on a trade-by-trade basis as did longtime FORBES columnist Lazlo Birinyi, and NOT daily. But outside of that, some 30+ years later I still find this book to be THE BEST clue0in as to how to time the stock market. For example, I caught both the top of the 2002-2007 Bull Market and the top of the 2009-2018 Bull Market, as well as nearly every Bear Market bottom. But understand that Granville is just a clue-in, there are some 30 years to adaptation one need make to refine the approach. But this book is an UNBEATABLE starting point.

As anyone who's done Flesch or Ševčík knows, working day in and out with a book that doesn't open flat is a recipe for annoyance and also eventual spine breakage. Sprial bound like this one is the way to go. As for the content, well... it's an exercise book, but way better than, say Yost. As for its utility, we'll see...

I bought mine used but it was still in almost mint condition except for a little bit of writing including some that said it was last used in a 1972 lesson!!!!!!definitely a lot of work in this book, maybe not the funnest, but it will definitely help you improve and learn more. ie. position switching, playing on more than one string at a time, staccato, etc.very happy

Came in perfect condition; this book is good For beginner to intermediate foundation.

What can I say? It is for my kid and she is ok with it. No complains.

Anything from the Schirmer Editors is wonderful. Easy to read and printed on paper that will last for many years. There is plenty of room for extra pencil notation as well.

I've heard CJ Box speak several times at the Tucson Festival of Books and I've always found him interesting and his books intriguing sounding but..... I've put off reading them because the series is so looong and knowing myself well, once I read one I want to read them all -- in order! So I started with one I thought was a standalone, The Highway, just to discover it wasn't exactly. But what can I say, I was hooked, so I started searching the used stores and yard sales and good deals online and here I am reading Joe Pickett and loving it.I think CJ's writing is clear and easy to follow, just enough detail to paint a clear and usually beautiful picture. I never once wanted to say, "C'mon, just get on with it!" I like that Joe loves his family, almost desperately, and wants the best for his girls (including his wife) and feels bad (maybe even inadequate) when he can't give them all that he wants to. I like that he is a real human being with flaws and weaknesses. (Perfect people who do everything easily and correctly every time get tiresome in a hurry.)So I think this love affair with CJ Box books is going to be long and lots of fun.....

When little Sheridan Pickett discovers a monster in her family’s back yard, her father and her family become embroiled in a mystery that is almost more than they can handle. Almost.C. J. Box’s prose is easy and comfortable as a well-worn saddle, and as gripping an experience as any mystery lover could desire. Halfway through, Open Season becomes unputdownable.Recommended.

A friend recommended C.J. Box to me recently so I took his advice and purchased Open Season. I thank him for endorsing C.J. Box.Joe Pickett is a new Wyoming Game & Fish Warden. He is conscientious and a stand up family man. He finds himself caught in a rivalry between the incumbent sheriff and a rival and threatened by others who will do anything to make conditions right for construction of a pipeline though the county.Suspense escalates as a group of outfitters are shot and killed in a conflict with law enforcement. The blame is placed on a certain deputy but when Joe isn't satisfied and determines to dig deep for answers his efforts are blocked by greedy, self-interested power brokers. One of the killings takes place in Joe's backyard. It seems his oldest daughter is a witness and she has a secret and it could be a deadly secret.This is my first book by C.J. Box but it won't be my last. I'm convinced he will become a new favorite.C. J. Box

THIS is going to be interesting. J. C. Box and his man, Joe Pickett, an engaging straight arrow from Wyoming, are new to me, but they succeeded in “Open Season”, their first outing, to make me lose sleep. As Joe got deeper and deeper into his first adventure I found myself actually worrying about him in the middle of the night. I had to make a conscious effort to remember that This Is Just A Book. It’s that good. The action covers Joe’s investigation of two deaths at a hunting camp far back in the Bighorn Mountains. He is the newly assigned Game Warden for Twelve Sleep County. Matters are greatly complicated by local politics, in particular, the possible impact of the Endangered Species Act on plans to run a gas pipeline through the area. It sounds like a peculiar peg to hang a mystery on, but Mr. Box does a beautiful job. He is helped by making everyone Joe runs into either unpleasant or nasty or both. A dandy book, and it has since been followed by at least seven more.

I was so excited to begin reading this series but only got through the first chapter and stopped reading. I didn't appreciate the language. I' sure it would have been a great story but just couldn't stomach the foul language. I won't be purchasing any further books from this author.

The Joe Pickett series is a big favorite in my family. I discovered this series about 5 years ago and proceeded read all of the books in order and now eagerly await the next. I introduced the series to my husband, brother, father and father-in-law and they are equally engaged in the series. The reason that the series is so compelling is because Joe Pickett is just an ordinary human. He has good intentions, but things frequently go wrong for him, just as they do for many of us. He is a noble man, ethical to a fault and deeply devoted to his family. He is also stubborn and sometimes lets his sense of justice/vengeance get in the way of his common sense. His wife and daughters are also fully developed participants in the story. Box's plotting is deft, drawing the reader in and creating a sense of anxiety that can only be relieved by reaching the end. I have stayed up way to late reading a Joe Pickett book on may occasions.

The main character of this book is refreshing. Wyoming game warden Joe Pickett is a genuine nice guy. Honest, loyal, sometimes a little clueless, as nice guys often are. He is in love with his wife and crazy about his daughters. As a game warden, he cares about animals and the environment, but he is no extremist. This nice, easygoing sweetheart of a guy winds up at the center of a horrendous crime which jeopardizes his family and his own life. In the stunning, wide open ranges of Wyoming, Joe Pickett is up to the challenge. He puts everything on the line to protect his family, shelter an endangered species and take down vicious criminals. Joe Pickett is a remarkable hero and I look forward to,reading more books about him.

The dictionary itself easily deserves 5 stars. I can't believe the 1828 dictionary isn't a household name. A sign of the times, I suppose. This Kindle edition seems like it was put together well but for some reason the search index, when used with my Kindle Paperwhite, doesn't work. It does work using Amazon's desktop app but I do most of my digital reading on my Kindle so this ebook is, at the moment, somewhat useless to me. I did speak with the publisher and he was good enough to promise to make efforts to see if the problem is unique to my own device or if it applies to all Paperwhites and act accordingly. I will report with any updates. One thing that I REALLY wanted was an Integrable dictionary that works with the Kindle and so decided to ask the publisher about this. He explained he too wanted to do this but Amazon doesn't allow for anyone to create integrated dictionaries for the Kindle. I rattled my brain thinking how I might be able to find enough people who would love to have Noah's 1828 dictionary used in much of their Kindle reading and, perhaps, to petition Amazon to reevaluate this policy and allow alternate dictionaries used for their e-reader. After giving it much thought I realized it would be wiser and more efficient if I let the readers come to me and voice with their fingers. If you want to see an Integrated 1828 dictionary for the Kindle then PLEASE "like" this review and let Amazon know that you want them to allow users to choose which dictionary they prefer. While I think their should be certain standards for what is considered an acceptable dictionary, Noah's 1828 dictionary more than qualifies and puts modern dictionaries to shame. Please, Amazon representatives, do the right thing and let it happen and put Noah Webster's masterpiece in the prominent place where it belongs. The Kindle is a wonderful device and it can only be made more wonderful by integrating it with the greatest dictionary of the English language ever published.

I love this dictionary (I own the large hardback copy also), but it must be made to integrate within Kindle. Also, it is not searchable by word, and you must scroll through every word once you picked a beginning letter. When these issues are fixed, it will be my "go to" dictionary.

Kindle is a wonderful modern tool that has revitalized my love for reading. The automatic integrated dictionaries included have also made me too lazy to use their respective hard copy versions. I ordered the Kindle 1828 Webster Dictionary at a substantially lower price than its hard copy, while considering that the Jan 2015 revision would be similarly integrated with Kindle. It isn’t.Packard Technologies has indicated hope that this problem might be rectified in the foreseeable future. If that happens, it will be great if the upgrade is automatically downloaded to my Kindle. Otherwise, I am stuck with an unsatisfactory purchase that I don’t know how to return.

A fine dictionary written by a man with a true testimony of salvation. His definitions are from biblical and historical perspectives which makes them more accurate when studying the Bible. I thank the Lord for this dictionary. It is fine reference book for anyone perusing older literature.

If you are looking to bring "immediate" clarity to words like: TRAUEILETH, VNIUST, AUAILE, VNTHRIFTIE, IEWELL, and EUILL, this is not the dictionary one is looking for. These words came from the KJV 1560 Geneva Bible. These words could not be found in this dictionary. Some would suggest that if one continues to read old English words of the past, eventually these words will begin to make sense. I agree. That's true. I've stumbled and learned some of these uncommon words through absorption. Take for example, the verse from Proverbs 11: 19, "The righteous leadeth to life: so hee that followeth euill, seeketh his owne death." The word "euill" is the word "evil." But what of a word that doesn't absorb so easily? That's the reason I purchased this dictionary. However, it fell short of containing the words that I was stumbling over. However, for words that could be found, pronunciations, definition, tense, and usage are excellent.Another point of interest to buyers will be the cumbersome and slow word searches. Expect to do quite a bit of scrolling. Time consuming. Despite the scrolling, this is a good dictionary for many 18 century words-- likely not exhaustive. Not a good dictionary for "old" English 15th century words--specifically for the Geneva Bible 1560.In my view, the price of the dictionary is too high. It can serve a purpose for words not as "old." I will continue to use it, but not enough to have appreciated purchasing it. Maybe if the price would have been less--then, I would not be as regretful. So, for deep digs like the Geneva Bible, this 1828 Webster Dictionary appears to be a big stretch to words used in the Geneva in 1560.

I was so excited to hear from a pastor friend of ours that this particular dictionary had Scriptures embedded in it. And it's been wonderful! Sometimes during my private Bible study time with my Kindle, I can't remember whether I'm in this dictionary or in my Bible! I mean, I have to scan down a few lines to see normal definitions without Scripture to remind myself of where I am! I highly recommend this as the ONLY necessary dictionary for your time with God. Put aside your regular dictionaries for other things. The only reason I put 4 stars and not 5, is because it's not on overloaded with Scriptures. I guess I'm picky like that.

This works fine on both my PC reader and Paperwhite. It is so much nicer than the printed edition: very clean. Navigation works by choosing a letter (get to this list by going BACK when you first open it), then from a list of two or three letters, then to a word list. It works fine! Nice work, thank you!

Having penned four cookbooks, I am now into a new series about French cooking. I studied in France and Le Cordon Bleu, so it is only natural. The latest book, "The French Cook: Sauces" (Gibbs Smith), is a study of the world of classical French sauces. The five classical mother sauces are brought to the fore-front: béchamel, veloute, hollandaise, espagnole, and les sauce tomates. There are also chapters devoted to mayonnaise and stocks, since they are so widely used, easy to make, and integral to sauce making. I wrote the book because I love France and French cooking. The idea for the series came from my editor, Madge Baird. The truth is, I've always loved France, and much of the inspiration in this book comes from there. While writing the book, I tried to keep the needs of the home cook in mind, while also nudging them to do more than they think possible. Sauces are ultimately very simple, a series of reductions and layers of flavors to produce the consummate finishing touches for any meal. So, a simple stock becomes the base for a béchamel fortified lasagna with wild mushrooms and leeks or a rouille on toast points with a fish stew, and so on. I am very excited about the release of this book in March 2013. It will be available at bookstores near you and Amazon. Pre-publication ordering is available now. Holly Herrick is an acclaimed cookbook author and food writer who draws inspiration from the beauty and seasonal, local produce and delicious food and restaurants of her home town, Charleston, S.C. The second book in the series, "The French Cook: Cream Puffs and Éclairs," will come out in the fall of 2013. (Holly Herrick Charleston Currents 2012-10-29)I must say it turned out mighty good. I guess the success is in the details that Holly mentioned in her book: using the plastic blade in food processor, pasteurizing the eggs, room temperature ingredients, the type of oil and pepper recommended, and tips on how to save it if everything goes south. Just like in Tart Love, she has a nice, familiar way of explaining things. I love it that although her books have a teaching component, they do not sound like a textbook. Our only dilemma was how to use almost 2.5 cups of mayonnaise in 4 days due to raw eggs. Thankfully there was a Super Bowl party that asked for dips. So you might want to wait some crowded event like that. There are many other sauces in the book that are essential to French cooking along with several recipes for each. By the time I finished the parts with tips and discussion about how-to of a sauce, the recipes did not sound intimidating anymore. As usual with any cookbook, there are bright, nicely arranged pictures of the dishes. But I am kinda growing tired of looking at food pictures (I know, I know..Irony!). So I really appreciated the street and store front shots from France and the action shots with the chefs, pots and pans in kitchens. I think it makes the book lively. Thank you, Holly, for being the catalyst to get two things checked off my bucket list, first the ins&outs of the tarts and now mayonnaise. I can not wait to see the next books in the series! And if you ever want to make this salad, just do yourself a favor and call it “International”. Saves a lot of discussion and headache. This is a fantastic book of French sauces! I have made several sauces of each of the major types from the recipes in this book thus far and they are heavenly! Classical French style and easy to follow. I have found using these sauces has broadened my flavor profiles considerably. They taste multidimensional and look so sophisticated. Many variations are suggested within each type to adapt easily for different dishes. Great suggestions and the whys on the few pieces of equipment needed to ideally make these sauces.

This was a great introductory book for some sauces and an advanced book for others.There's a deep red wine sauce - hold onto your hat and if you're up for a long haul recipe - the one with veal stock....Good luck and enjoy. I think it would make a great xmas present ...!!!

The only words I have are Thank You. I have read it through once. The author writes of not just how but why to do things a certain way. The style of the writing, the photographs, the teachings are all magnificent. I made a mounted butter sauce...perfection. When you read this book you are in the presence of a master.

OK on basic information, could use some more examples. My main goal was using color with SCO/Linux programs. Unfortunatly this book gives no hint that color is even possible, much less how to do it. This book must be 20 years old and doesn't appear to have been updated in all that time. HAY!!! There are color terminals now!!! And Curses supports them!!! Xterms can be in color too!!!I found the doc files about "ncurses" that came with my "Slackware Linux" far more helpful than this book.The book is probably OK for intro in a classroom setting to give students background, but I can't really recommend it. You can get more "useful" info from a "Yahoo" search or from linux "ncurses" documentation.It can provide a quick reference for finding which curses function calls to use to do basic windowing and such.

This book was a waste. I purchase a 'programming' book to learn how to develop using a particular library, etc.This is a pocket guide to curses with a 5 line piece of code every once in a while.If it is new to you find something else.I looked at a Wrox "Linux Programming" book and found MUCH more thorough explanations and covering the same material! I guess I'll use that instead.

This book is the only general resource I could find on curses programming. Since everyone wants to make forms on character interfaces, the best way to do it through the standard TTY drivers is with the curses library. The examples were enough to prove to me that it's not a plug-in method, but that one needs to adapt one's application to use the curses library from top to bottom. It will be better to write my program with curses in mind from the beginning than to try to retrofit a finished product.

I've had several copies of this book and keep loaning it out. It's such a great book on body awareness, eating disorders and body image. Christine Caldwell is the founder of the Somatic Counseling Psych program at Naropa. I graduated with my MA in 2005 before I discovered her book. I was in the Transpersonal program and missed out on all the great somatic work they do in this program. Wish I had done that program after all.

This book is a intriguing read for anyone wanting to become more present and comfortable in their skin.As a survivor of sexual assault and domestic violence, I have a great deal of physical PTSD symptoms as well as psychological sypmtoms. I am also a recovering alcoholic and addict, as many survivors of sexual assault are. I bought this book at the urging of my therapist, in hopes that I would learn more about managing the physical sensations, dissociation, etc.After reading this book, I have a lot more insight into the body-mind-spirit connection. I was impressed with the detail in explaining how our habits, behaviors, posture, etc. indicate the roots of our trauma and how that can lead to, and perpetuate, addictive behaviors. I was also impressed with the information about addressing the behaviors and actually stopping the cycle.This book has given me a fresh viewpoint on two major challenges in my life. I will be putting more of the suggestions into practice, to see how well the theories actually work, but the information rings true on many levels.I would definitely recommend this book to anyone with addictive behavior problems, whether they be alcohol or drug abuse, eating disorders, etc.

This is a life changing book for those that will embrace Christine's "moving cycle" method. I highly recommend to all interested in the fields of movement, dance, psychology, counseling, and meditation.

Generally on the mark as a self-help guide. Thesis: If we celebrate being alive and stop withdrawing from the full reality of being biological creatures in mammal bodies, i.e. if we experience life directly, we can recover. We must move toward being "permeable" to the experience of things in life: all things, good and bad, without that judgement operating on our reactions. As we become aware (have direct experiences), and trust our bodies (stop denial) we will be able to let go of our mental "constrictions" and take action or "enter the dance." Progress involves overcoming often deeply held beliefs about what limits we should keep in place on our physical selves. Unlearning those constricting beliefs and putting in place a healthier self-relationship is the primary goal of this author's form of therapy.

Outstanding book!

Contains insightful explanations of the roots of addictions and an excellent discussion of truthful living. I read it on my kindle but am buying a hard copy as well, so I can reread, underline, and share it. Thanks, Christine.

This is worth studying deeply. The author frames issues of addiction in a way that speaks to those of us who are don't appear to have deep addictions but who are always feeling something isn't right. She deconstructs the drives we have and helps put in perspective the ways we create addictions to cope with stress in our lives. Only she digs deeper, and helps me understand how profound this coping mechanism is and why we do it.

Excellent, excellent book. Everyone can benefit from reading this work.
