This book it great! It has everything from different types of road trips, 3 day, 7 day and 2 week trips. Family trips, solo trips, friend trips. As well as individual tips and info about all over New Zealand!

Just got back and I am so glad I got this guidebook. Not only did it make planning the trip so much easier (the suggested itineraries and best of lists are brilliant!) but we found the suggestions on the ground for restaurants, hotels and tours were much more accurate and up-to-date than what we found on the internet or in the other guidebook we consulted. Plus, the book wasn’t as heavy as the other, so we could carry as we toured which was a real boon. I cannot emphasize enough how crucial this guidebook was to planning a great trip: not only was it thoroughly up-to-date, but it laid out the information in a much more direct, understandable way than we found elsewhere (on the internet and in other books, and I looked at a few!

This guide has virtually ZERO information pertaining to travelers who are more outdoorsy, and is useless to hikers and campers/campervanners. It's also heavily skewed towards more luxurious (re: expensive) travel. No camping recommendations. No recommendations for hikes. No mention of the incredibly famous Great Walks. How did Frommers even publish this thing? People go to NZ for the outdoors, not for museums, and you don't need to take a helicopter tour to enjoy it, as this guide would have you believe. It reads like a guide to the UK, a place where the cities/towns are of interest, not an adventure mecca like New Zealand.If you are an elderly traveler, or traveling with very small children, or accommodating a physical disability, and therefore want to spend your time on paved roads (and/or inside museums and restaurants) as part of organized tours, this is a fine guide. If you are a healthy, able-bodied adult who wants to see New Zealand for its most outstanding qualities (the outdoors!) this guide is of practically no use. The only positive thing is that what recommendations they do have for hotels/restaurants seem helpful and are much clearer than other brands of guides I've used.

Excellent book with many travel tips. It also comes with a medium size fold out map!

with web access worldwide book is slimmer with less info than one I used to travel to NZ 17 years ago. I like the compactness of a book and am sorry i will have to haul my phone and/or iPad or laptop to look up bed and breakfast opportunities which used to be prolific before electronics took over our world. sometimes the simplicity of a book you can leave behind is easier than the wires, chargers, wifi access codes, the reach of your "carrier" and extra batteries of what we use today.

It was particularly helpful given we were on cruise and had to decide whether or not to book a tour off the ship. Before arriving at each port, we looked at our options in Frommers. Saved us money.

This book changed my life. I have been a gardener most of my life, and have felt a connection to nature even as a city dweller. But reading this book has deepened my experience of the natural world into a much more spiritual level unlike any other book I have read previously. The science is fascinating and understandable; the wisdom is awe-inspiring. It is a book that I open and read whenever I need to plant my feet on the ground again. I can't recommend this book more highly.

I was lucky enough to be a student of Dr. Kimmerer's at SUNY ESF. While there, I took every class she offered. Dr. Kimmerer has the kind of quiet voice that everyone hushes to hear, not wanting to miss a word of her eloquence. Reading this book has reminded me to cultivate my love for the Earth in ways that my daughters can participate in, and to recognize the relationship between people and nature as a two-way street. We do not simply destroy or protect nature - we evolved in direct relationship with plants, and plants evolved in direct relationship with us. As an environmental scientist, I like to think that I look at the world through a lens of love and concern for the earth, but this book pushes me further in love and hope and urgency.

This is not the "type of book" I would typically read, or thought I would enjoy. (I gravitate toward science, and abhor "storytelling). Nevertheless, this book was so highly recommended that I gave it a try. After only a few pages, I realized what a gift had so fortuitously come into my life. I fear I cannot adequately describe its profound essence -- part science, part wisdom, part communicator of the mysteries of animate "objects." All I can say is: read it and experience the magic for yourself. Thank you to all who took the trouble to recommend this book to me. I feel blessed and enriched for having read it.

This goes as a Top 10 Books of All Time in my opinion. Robin grew up in nature, was trained as a scientist, and returned to nature. This book seems to be the story of how she integrated these widely disparate traditions (scientific knowledge vs indigenous wisdom). For anyone who struggles with integrating science and naturalistic philosophy, this book may help illuminate the path along the way.As a medical student training in mainstream hospitals, this book is a lifeline. I read a few pages at a time and take notes along the way. I won't spoil it, but if you are thinking that maybe this book might be good ... it's good.

I cannot give this enough stars, because it would be 10 stars!Robin Wall Kimmerer is an amazing writer offering wisdom teachings from the plants and native teachings presented in a story that is her life's work.This book is a marriage of science based info and wisdom based teachings, and it is a work of art. I'm a reader of several FIRE (financial independence, retire early) blogs, including the well-written Our Next Life blog, and wasn't sure what I would learn that was new. Turns out, the book is very balanced in getting a reader to look outward to learn about the nuts and bolts of work-optional life and to look inward at what factors would make such a person (this person) want to pursue such a life. The book starts with an introspective effort to craft one's money mission statement by identifying common themes across different times in our lives. I had a great time reliving my 12- and 21- year-old dreams (although I'll take the life I have now, thanks very much). It then delves into the essential components of a financial plan. The book really shines here: the money-related details are presented efficiently and authoritatively. The part on healthcare costs is a standout for its fair treatment of the various options that are currently available. The part on "bulletproofing" plans shone as well. The emphasis on the "non-penny pinching" from the title is evident as Hester focuses her tips on containing the biggest expenses (housing and healthcare in retirement, and housing and transportation in pre-retirement) as well as giving practical tips to further accelerate progress. The final section of the book transitions back to the reader's original vision of work-optional life and advises how to "make the big leap," with gentle reminders for self-care and living a purpose-filled life.This book is highly recommended for those who are curious about FIRE as well as those who are at any point in the accumulation phase. It's an easy read for its conversational tone, but make no mistake, the book also challenged me in thinking through aspects of FIRE I hadn't considered. In Part 1, Tanja starts off by explaining what Early Retirement/"Work Optional" life is and challenging you to imagine who you are without work. If you 're stuck, she gives you the cheat code to get unstuck through a series of exploratory questions. You can tell she used to be a consultant because her questions are empathetic in nature, but not wimpy. They make you confront the fact that your current lifestyle and your ideal one may be at odds. The good news is, you probably don't have to wait until retirement to reconcile some of that! In our opinion, the book is worth that act of self-discovery alone.Part 2 is all about planning and this is where thangs got REAL. Tanja doesn't shy away from the fact that none of us have a crystal ball. Instead, she explains how to introduce flexibility into your plan through a number of continencies. She puts all the uncomfortable out in the open where it can be resolved. We also loved how she took the most mundane financial products and gave us a reason to care about them by explaining the tangible benefits in both the short AND long term. We've been in the Accumulation stage of Early Retirement for several years and this section gave us a lot to think about. Turns out, we still have work to do!Part 3 was probably our favorite. It's where she talks about the Big Leap and all the things you need to think about in your final months of traditional employment. We loved the emphasis on spiritual and mental wellness. Tanja reminds us that Health Insurance and employer-match 401ks aren't the only things that are tightly wound to our jobs. Work provides so many emotional rewards like positive feedback and social/intellectual engagement and you don't magically just stop needing those things. Post-retirement, you really have to figure out a way to build a life that still checks those boxes and she walks you though some actionable steps.Overall, this was a FANTASTIC book and one that we'll reference many many mannnny times over the years as a textbook. Highly recommend!

I learned about this book a couple of weeks ago from J Money blog and based on description of the content, I decided to pick this up on Amazon. I read about 10-15 financial planning, early retirement, investment, budgeting books per year, but this book is my ALL TIME Favorite and i don't want to put it down. It covers the emotional and financial aspects in great detail and has all the tools that are very practical applications for developing your own plans. I intend to purchase more copies of this book to give to my friends, co workers and children. Looking forward to reading and following this author in the future.

This book is very logically laid out, written in a way that is simple but not condescending, and is focused on a nice responsible plan to have a work-optional life. As a yoga and sport mobility coach, I have many adult clients and athletes who experience back discomfort and pain on a regular basis. Dana drops so many knowledge bombs in this book that are easy to follow, it makes the perfect resource for everyone! I highly recommend getting a copy to rid back pain for good in a healthy non-invasive yogic way!

It’s a great place to start for people who are new to dealing with back pain. The author gives a good explanation if the muscles involved plus many of the exercises one would find going to physical therapy or a back care yoga class.

Good solutions to back issues.

I should say that I've read dozens of back pain/back health books at this point, as I used to suffer from back problems and my wife still does. This one, in my opinion, is in the top 10% of those books: this is because it's straight forward, informative, full of info, and very easy to assimilate (in terms of the approach and info).So what is the approach? Largely, this book is about postures and simple exercises (largely drawn from or resembling yoga) that are meant to stretch, strengthen, move, and help you back and core. This book is committed to the idea that MOVEMENT is the key to back health, not rest or inactivity or something like that. The back, as evidenced in this book, is not isolated: it's totally connected to your whole core and even your limbs (particularly via the hamstrings and glutes).As you can see in my pics, the book has some postures that people with certain back injuries will not want to do. Twisting, for instance, is totally out of the question for some people. But there are exercises and postures almost everyone will find value in.Personally, I'd have liked to see a bit more range in the book. Weight training and more advanced bodyweight training is not covered, and I've personally found that my core is much stronger now (and back pain gone) as a result of more intense gymnastics rings work. So the book is kind of simple or beginner-level, in some ways.With few faults to mention I should close by saying I like the book a lot. I'm glad we have it in our "bad back" library.

I have lower back pain and have had it for some time now! This book by Dana Santas lays out 40 different exercises, for the mind and body, to be able to move and feel better. The book starts with back pain basics and goes into what causes your back to hurt, muscles that support and move your spine, how breathing impacts your back, physical trauma (most likely my case) and tight hip problems. There is also a list of 5 ways to break bad habits. Some of the things can contribute to back pain is poor posture, a sedentary lifestyle, excess weight or pregnancy, smoking, depression and the two I find the most triggering is daily life and stress! There are 3 different exercise phase: to relieve pain, to regain strength and mobility and for maintenance and prevention. I have already noticed a difference in my lower back pain using the first phase, to relieve pain, 3 times a week or when my back is really bothering me. I am going to keep doing them and the move into the strength and mobility phase for better movement and then maintenance and prevention to keep the pain at bay! I really recommend this book to anyone who experience back pain for lifestyle changes and exercises to reduce those pains.
