This book it great! It has everything from different types of road trips, 3 day, 7 day and 2 week trips. Family trips, solo trips, friend trips. As well as individual tips and info about all over New Zealand!

Just got back and I am so glad I got this guidebook. Not only did it make planning the trip so much easier (the suggested itineraries and best of lists are brilliant!) but we found the suggestions on the ground for restaurants, hotels and tours were much more accurate and up-to-date than what we found on the internet or in the other guidebook we consulted. Plus, the book wasn’t as heavy as the other, so we could carry as we toured which was a real boon. I cannot emphasize enough how crucial this guidebook was to planning a great trip: not only was it thoroughly up-to-date, but it laid out the information in a much more direct, understandable way than we found elsewhere (on the internet and in other books, and I looked at a few!

This guide has virtually ZERO information pertaining to travelers who are more outdoorsy, and is useless to hikers and campers/campervanners. It's also heavily skewed towards more luxurious (re: expensive) travel. No camping recommendations. No recommendations for hikes. No mention of the incredibly famous Great Walks. How did Frommers even publish this thing? People go to NZ for the outdoors, not for museums, and you don't need to take a helicopter tour to enjoy it, as this guide would have you believe. It reads like a guide to the UK, a place where the cities/towns are of interest, not an adventure mecca like New Zealand.If you are an elderly traveler, or traveling with very small children, or accommodating a physical disability, and therefore want to spend your time on paved roads (and/or inside museums and restaurants) as part of organized tours, this is a fine guide. If you are a healthy, able-bodied adult who wants to see New Zealand for its most outstanding qualities (the outdoors!) this guide is of practically no use. The only positive thing is that what recommendations they do have for hotels/restaurants seem helpful and are much clearer than other brands of guides I've used.

Excellent book with many travel tips. It also comes with a medium size fold out map!

with web access worldwide book is slimmer with less info than one I used to travel to NZ 17 years ago. I like the compactness of a book and am sorry i will have to haul my phone and/or iPad or laptop to look up bed and breakfast opportunities which used to be prolific before electronics took over our world. sometimes the simplicity of a book you can leave behind is easier than the wires, chargers, wifi access codes, the reach of your "carrier" and extra batteries of what we use today.

It was particularly helpful given we were on cruise and had to decide whether or not to book a tour off the ship. Before arriving at each port, we looked at our options in Frommers. Saved us money.

This book changed my life. I have been a gardener most of my life, and have felt a connection to nature even as a city dweller. But reading this book has deepened my experience of the natural world into a much more spiritual level unlike any other book I have read previously. The science is fascinating and understandable; the wisdom is awe-inspiring. It is a book that I open and read whenever I need to plant my feet on the ground again. I can't recommend this book more highly.

I was lucky enough to be a student of Dr. Kimmerer's at SUNY ESF. While there, I took every class she offered. Dr. Kimmerer has the kind of quiet voice that everyone hushes to hear, not wanting to miss a word of her eloquence. Reading this book has reminded me to cultivate my love for the Earth in ways that my daughters can participate in, and to recognize the relationship between people and nature as a two-way street. We do not simply destroy or protect nature - we evolved in direct relationship with plants, and plants evolved in direct relationship with us. As an environmental scientist, I like to think that I look at the world through a lens of love and concern for the earth, but this book pushes me further in love and hope and urgency.

This is not the "type of book" I would typically read, or thought I would enjoy. (I gravitate toward science, and abhor "storytelling). Nevertheless, this book was so highly recommended that I gave it a try. After only a few pages, I realized what a gift had so fortuitously come into my life. I fear I cannot adequately describe its profound essence -- part science, part wisdom, part communicator of the mysteries of animate "objects." All I can say is: read it and experience the magic for yourself. Thank you to all who took the trouble to recommend this book to me. I feel blessed and enriched for having read it.

This goes as a Top 10 Books of All Time in my opinion. Robin grew up in nature, was trained as a scientist, and returned to nature. This book seems to be the story of how she integrated these widely disparate traditions (scientific knowledge vs indigenous wisdom). For anyone who struggles with integrating science and naturalistic philosophy, this book may help illuminate the path along the way.As a medical student training in mainstream hospitals, this book is a lifeline. I read a few pages at a time and take notes along the way. I won't spoil it, but if you are thinking that maybe this book might be good ... it's good.

I'm a reader of several FIRE (financial independence, retire early) blogs, including the well-written Our Next Life blog, and wasn't sure what I would learn that was new. Turns out, the book is very balanced in getting a reader to look outward to learn about the nuts and bolts of work-optional life and to look inward at what factors would make such a person (this person) want to pursue such a life. The book starts with an introspective effort to craft one's money mission statement by identifying common themes across different times in our lives. I had a great time reliving my 12- and 21- year-old dreams (although I'll take the life I have now, thanks very much). It then delves into the essential components of a financial plan. The book really shines here: the money-related details are presented efficiently and authoritatively. The part on healthcare costs is a standout for its fair treatment of the various options that are currently available. The part on "bulletproofing" plans shone as well. The emphasis on the "non-penny pinching" from the title is evident as Hester focuses her tips on containing the biggest expenses (housing and healthcare in retirement, and housing and transportation in pre-retirement) as well as giving practical tips to further accelerate progress. The final section of the book transitions back to the reader's original vision of work-optional life and advises how to "make the big leap," with gentle reminders for self-care and living a purpose-filled life.This book is highly recommended for those who are curious about FIRE as well as those who are at any point in the accumulation phase. It's an easy read for its conversational tone, but make no mistake, the book also challenged me in thinking through aspects of FIRE I hadn't considered. In Part 1, Tanja starts off by explaining what Early Retirement/"Work Optional" life is and challenging you to imagine who you are without work. If you 're stuck, she gives you the cheat code to get unstuck through a series of exploratory questions. You can tell she used to be a consultant because her questions are empathetic in nature, but not wimpy. They make you confront the fact that your current lifestyle and your ideal one may be at odds. The good news is, you probably don't have to wait until retirement to reconcile some of that! In our opinion, the book is worth that act of self-discovery alone.Part 2 is all about planning and this is where thangs got REAL. Tanja doesn't shy away from the fact that none of us have a crystal ball. Instead, she explains how to introduce flexibility into your plan through a number of continencies. She puts all the uncomfortable out in the open where it can be resolved. We also loved how she took the most mundane financial products and gave us a reason to care about them by explaining the tangible benefits in both the short AND long term. We've been in the Accumulation stage of Early Retirement for several years and this section gave us a lot to think about. Turns out, we still have work to do!Part 3 was probably our favorite. It's where she talks about the Big Leap and all the things you need to think about in your final months of traditional employment. We loved the emphasis on spiritual and mental wellness. Tanja reminds us that Health Insurance and employer-match 401ks aren't the only things that are tightly wound to our jobs. Work provides so many emotional rewards like positive feedback and social/intellectual engagement and you don't magically just stop needing those things. Post-retirement, you really have to figure out a way to build a life that still checks those boxes and she walks you though some actionable steps.Overall, this was a FANTASTIC book and one that we'll reference many many mannnny times over the years as a textbook. Highly recommend!

I learned about this book a couple of weeks ago from J Money blog and based on description of the content, I decided to pick this up on Amazon. I read about 10-15 financial planning, early retirement, investment, budgeting books per year, but this book is my ALL TIME Favorite and i don't want to put it down. It covers the emotional and financial aspects in great detail and has all the tools that are very practical applications for developing your own plans. I intend to purchase more copies of this book to give to my friends, co workers and children. Looking forward to reading and following this author in the future.

As a yoga and sport mobility coach, I have many adult clients and athletes who experience back discomfort and pain on a regular basis. Dana drops so many knowledge bombs in this book that are easy to follow, it makes the perfect resource for everyone! I highly recommend getting a copy to rid back pain for good in a healthy non-invasive yogic way!

It’s a great place to start for people who are new to dealing with back pain. The author gives a good explanation if the muscles involved plus many of the exercises one would find going to physical therapy or a back care yoga class.

Good solutions to back issues.

I should say that I've read dozens of back pain/back health books at this point, as I used to suffer from back problems and my wife still does. This one, in my opinion, is in the top 10% of those books: this is because it's straight forward, informative, full of info, and very easy to assimilate (in terms of the approach and info).So what is the approach? Largely, this book is about postures and simple exercises (largely drawn from or resembling yoga) that are meant to stretch, strengthen, move, and help you back and core. This book is committed to the idea that MOVEMENT is the key to back health, not rest or inactivity or something like that. The back, as evidenced in this book, is not isolated: it's totally connected to your whole core and even your limbs (particularly via the hamstrings and glutes).As you can see in my pics, the book has some postures that people with certain back injuries will not want to do. Twisting, for instance, is totally out of the question for some people. But there are exercises and postures almost everyone will find value in.Personally, I'd have liked to see a bit more range in the book. Weight training and more advanced bodyweight training is not covered, and I've personally found that my core is much stronger now (and back pain gone) as a result of more intense gymnastics rings work. So the book is kind of simple or beginner-level, in some ways.With few faults to mention I should close by saying I like the book a lot. I'm glad we have it in our "bad back" library.

I have lower back pain and have had it for some time now! This book by Dana Santas lays out 40 different exercises, for the mind and body, to be able to move and feel better. The book starts with back pain basics and goes into what causes your back to hurt, muscles that support and move your spine, how breathing impacts your back, physical trauma (most likely my case) and tight hip problems. There is also a list of 5 ways to break bad habits. Some of the things can contribute to back pain is poor posture, a sedentary lifestyle, excess weight or pregnancy, smoking, depression and the two I find the most triggering is daily life and stress! There are 3 different exercise phase: to relieve pain, to regain strength and mobility and for maintenance and prevention. I have already noticed a difference in my lower back pain using the first phase, to relieve pain, 3 times a week or when my back is really bothering me. I am going to keep doing them and the move into the strength and mobility phase for better movement and then maintenance and prevention to keep the pain at bay! I really recommend this book to anyone who experience back pain for lifestyle changes and exercises to reduce those pains.

I love James Patterson and have read everyone of his books. I, Michael Bennett was such a disappoinment. You get to the last page and think "What the hell just happened, did my Kindle drop some pages." You don't know how the books ends. How long do we have to wait for a sequel. I'm late to the party for this series of books from James Patterson, but that doesn't mean I was disappointed in not having know about them. I just need to keep my eyes open better for future books in the series.NYPD Red is a specialized unit of Detectives in the New York Police Department who are tasked with solving crimes that involve or revolve around the wealthy, politically connected, or just plain old celebrities. In other words these Detectives and their Captain need to know how to handle the elite and their harsh personalities.In this first book of the series the city of New York is trying it's best to lure the Movie and Television Industry to come to New York and make more flicks there instead of in Hollywood. Unfortunately a disgruntled and disturbed individual wants to sabotage the week of events scheduled. So, this person sets about to start murdering people who are wealthy, connected and part of the Hollywood scene.At first it seems like just one murder, but as the bodies pile up the NYPD Red team his overdrive to try and solve the crimes.There are a bunch of little sub-plots that run through the novel involving the two main detectives, Detective Jordan and Detective McDonald. It seems they have a past dating relationship and that causes some issues. BUT, they are the top two Detectives in New York and they have a very unorthodox way of solving crimes, they break the rules!Having worked with police officers as a police chaplain I found the descriptions of the characters very accurate and reasonable even though people might think Patterson has exaggerated them a bit.Will Jordan and McDonald be able to stop this crusader / murderer before he or she can kill hundreds? That's the question and the heart stopping action will keep you reading.Enjoy!

It begins with the murder of a glamour girl, and theft of her fortune in jewelry, in front of a crowd of New York theater-goers. The culprit disappears, leaving a city amazed at the crime. This is obviously a case for New York's elite Red detective unit, and Detectives Zack Gordon and Kylie McDonald get the assignment. Their investigation reveals that this is not a simple murder and robbery. The culprit is after far more, and the danger increases as our detectives get closer. The suspense, action, and interplay between the detectives make for a page-turner that is most satisfying.

Detective Bennett becomes involved in investigating a Mexican drug cartel leader, that has world class training, both in business and has developed an attitude of unconcern, as he believes himself greater than the common folk.During the investigation Detective Bennett manages to chase the suspect and apprehend him, and in so doing,witnesses the suspect killing someone to enhance his chances in order to get away.The suspect's organization kills the presiding judge of the trial and the manages a daring escape all on the orders of the suspect, as he corrupts anyone around him.An excellently written book from a well known writer.

I just received my copy. This is a gorgeous book. The narrations is superb and the illustrations are extraordinary. When I opened it and went through the pages, my heart was immediately uplifted. Definitely recommend this book especially with the holidays upon us.

This is a charming story about fairies, and the illustrations are absolutely adorable. Have you ever thought about what fairies do when the seasons change? My daughter loved reading the book, and is excited to help the fairies in our neighborhood by making a fairy garden of her own. This book is a fun addition to our home library, and one I will be buying more copies of during my holiday shopping. :)

This is a delight and just right for fairy believers to continue their support and love of fairies during the winter in parts of the country that get cold and snowy. I gave it as a gift and it is adored!!

Where Do Fairies Go When It Snows is a whimsical tale that questions what fairies do during the winter months. Do they hibernate? Do they bundle up? What do you believe?The book is stated as being for grades Preschool – Second Grade (2 – 7 years) but I think that is stretching it a bit. My daughter is seven and just entering second grade and it took her maybe two minutes to read it. It’s definitely more appropriate for younger readers. That said, my daughter did enjoy it as she loves fairies and has asked before what fairies do when it’s cold outside. The text is accompanied with cute drawings while will help appeal to younger readers as well.A cute read.

It asks questions about what fairies do during various times of the year and how they live. The story is told in rhyme and has gorgeous illustrations. It then briefly talks about humans taking care of each other like the fairies. The last page is a cute list of what you can do to help take care of the fairies and birds in the winter. It's an interesting book, more like a travelogue of New England seafood eateries with recipes than a traditional cookbook. The recipes all come from well and lesser-known New England seafood eateries, with a lot of pictures (of the eateries) and some history on each (the eateries, not the recipes). It's not organized like a regular cookbook (a negative), so you will rely on the index quite a bit when looking for a specific recipe or type of food. Most of the recipes are simple enough, what you would expect of "clam shack food", and geared to the typical "home cook" instead of "restaurant chef" (this is a good thing, IMO). The recipes are all seafood-based (lobster, clam, oyster, fish, chowders) or seafood associated (Kale Soup, which is better than it sounds, and Cape Ann Bread, for instance).The last few pages of the book are devoted to the index, of course, but there is also a useable listing of New England clam shacks, lobster pounds, and chowder houses, listed by state and including addresses, telephone numbers, and pertinent information (hours, BYOB, etc.) Also included is a page of "Resources", which lists mail order sources for some of the ingredients use in the recipes, although I have yet to come across a recipe that required items not readily available from a local market (New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania area, your mileage may differ).In summary, I like this book. It's not a definitive cookbook of seafood dishes; it is what it says on the cover, a clam shack cookbook.

Great cookbook, well presented recipes and pictures!

Great cookbook that brings me back to my childhood growing up in Fall River, Massachusetts. I've often visited the seafood restraunts featured in this book and still do, when I visit. I enjoyed reading about new places and trying out new recipes. I've already made clamcakes, which were DELICIOUS!!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED this book!!!!

Just GREAT! this book is so informative, funny & entertaining & ohh so delicious. I love this book and cant wait to visit some of these clam shacks and try not only clam recipes but also seafood, breads and desert recipes from all over New England.

The recipes are easy to follow, and not too eomplicated to be beyond your summer-cottage fare. We have enjoyed every single recipe we have used - thanks for the newsy background on all the little restaurants as well. It's a fun read - and a great cook book.

I received my copy yesterday and read the whole book in one sitting. Atticus never disappoints. There is something soul-stirring about his words. Each poem hit me deeply.I love the photographs as well. Very artistic.

I’m a huge fan of this poet. This book was pure perfection from the cover to the last word. I devoured it and the images in this book are stunning and go with the poems perfectly. It was definitely worth the wait and I think I love this one even more than his first if that’s possible. He is hands down my favorite poet. His wording are healing and beautiful. I highly recommend this book.

Atticus... Where have you been all my life? LOL.I am a huge poetry fan. I read lots of poetry, online and in print. I order this after seeing some of the poetry from the book floating around social media. This is what I thought...1) The price point on my hardcover copy is more than fair.2) The book itself is a high quality print.3) The poetry inside is magical. I love it. Atticus knows how to pull the reader in with emotional and romantic appeal. The poems moved me and at times I even cried. I felt like, I was a part of the narratives the poems depict.If you like to read, love poetry, and are a romantic at heart, then these poems will captivate you. I recommend this book to everyone. It’s such a great deal for the price.You will love it.

I bought this book with high hopes for a refreshing dose of poetry, but was sorely disappointed. The poems read like they were written by a middle school boy jotting down any random, vaguely poetic thoughts that come to mind. Completely unoriginal and uninspirational. Much of it is just reworded quotes from other people anyways. I don’t even think over half of these qualify as real poems? It’s unfortunatrly the sad reality of modern poetry. It’s disappointing that poetry of this quality is what youth will be reading when they could be reading actual poetry. This was a waste of my money

This book is VERY similar to his first book, Love Her Wild. I maybe expected something a little different. After reading his second book, I am beginning to think his poetry is a little too simple. It's like simple poems about 5 simple topics over and over. Lovely pictures and artistry. I even like his poetry. Just not enough there to warrant putting it in a book and publishing it.

I felt like Atticus was cheering me on the whole time. When I read the poems I felt comforted, like I'm not alone; others have fought these battles and won, and so can I.

This is a birthday present for a granddaughter this book is so much better bound than just paperback only $1. more than what target had it. Sure she is going to treasure it for years.

I wanted to get into poetry more, but this was a terrible place to start. It’s not really “poetry,” it’s just a collection of thoughts everyone has. There’s some cool language used, and maybe it’s just not for me, but I like to read things that have unique value and meaning.

I love Joanna Schlip. She is an amazing make up artist, but this book is not for anyone who is looking for dramatic make up looks. All are very light looks, like for young girls that are just starting out with make up. So yes for the teenage beginner that wants to look very natural with almost no make up. I picked this because I saw Joanna in a make up dvd and her work in that wa amazing! Joanna please do more videos or books with more info and dramtic looks.

This was a gift for my granddaugher[12] she was thrilled and couldnt wait to try out different looks,lovely colorful pages

I picked up this book for my niece at a local book store and paid quite a bit more for it than what Amazon is selling it for. The book itself is worth much more than even its list price. Loads of great photos and tons of inspirational and informational content. My niece hasn't put the book down, and I'm sure that I'll be buying her another copy come Christmas.

My daughter asked me to buy this book yesterday at B& Noble. I liked it...enough to send to my nieces (in middle school & high school). Finally, there's somebody else out there that validates what I've been saying all along--Stop with the racoon eyes and the 'hard' look. It's a good book...wish the author would follow up with something like this for the 45+ crowd. Just a suggestion.

The 12 year old girl I gave it to for Christmas loved it. She did not put it down all afternoon. She liked the notable teens featured in the book and its makeup info.

Overall I found this book to be helpful in understanding the inner workings of the Zend Framework. The low score I gave this book is attributed to the several errors in the code examples. It seems this book was rushed to publication and nobody verified that the code examples worked.If you are like me and like to build the code as you read each chapter then this book is NOT for you. I could never get the code to work as written in the book. I would advise that you download the companion code from the publisher's website. The code from the site seems to have been tweaked after the publication of the book and does run correctly. Problem is it does not match the code in the book therefore you have to investigate why the book says one way while the code shows it another way. Very frustrating the say the least!I can only recommend this book if the publisher decides to release a second edition with these errors fixed.Regards.

Rob Allen writes in clear, easy to understand fashion. He presents the topic in a logical progression, so the overall picture of the framework is redily grasped.Allan's breadth of knowledge on the subject and experience in writing makes for relaxed presentation and quick absorbtion of the subject for the reader.The Chapters are subdivided into numbered sections for easy reference and each section leads logically into the next.Allen not only tells the 'what' but also the 'why' of how things are done within the framework which aids in understanding the philosophy used in the design approach.Tips and techniques are sprinkled liberally throughout the book. These tidbits, such as how to prevent your site from being hacked, are extremely helpful.This is not only a well written explanation of the Zend Framework but also a useful reference tool as well.

I bought this book because I saw it mentioned on many tutorials about Zend all over the web and I am not disapointed. It has all the information you need to understand the Model View Controller way to create web sites and the source code used in the examples is well explained.I also found that the editorial behind this book cares a lot about its customers, I asked for an specific part of the source code and they obliged so, if you want a real good book about zend framework to learn or to use as a reference this is the one.

the book is written very well to make it easy to follow. I was looking for a book for an older Zend Framework by purpose, and this one fits my demand.

This is a good book. It really explains the Zend Framework. However, Zend Framework is really a heavy framework and not flexible. (Ruby on Rails is a much better framework.) After reading this book, I decided not to go ahead to use Zend Framework.

Here are my reasons why I gave this book a 1 star1. The code snippets in the book are sometimes erroneous and very different from what's included in the code bundle download.2. When explaining a complex framework to a beginner, needless tangential code (like preventing cross site scripting and SQL injection attacks) are a distraction. This book has a lot of this.3. Some code is very poorly explained.4. Ajax is explored even before Database access is explained.5. I found an entire section on how to insert and update records for related tables using Zend_Db missing.6. The example the authors use (an application called places which allows users to review places that are kid friendly and post review comments) is invoked in bits and pieces throughout the application. There is no smooth flow.All in all, this is a badly written book, which is frustrating to read. And once you start a book, you have no choice but to finish it to get what you can from it. If you are someone new to the Zend Framework, I'd give this book a skip. Sorry I don't have any other Zend book to recommend, but I am sure a little searching will find you the right one. Avoid this book.

As anyone who pre-ordered this book knows, it was way off its release schedule. That may explain the numerous errors in the book.I am only on day 2 of the book and so far I have found at least 5 errors. These are not misprints but clear technical errors. The errors are in differing areas too, so not like the author simply misunderstood something, which leads me to believe this book, while already late, was rushed out of the door.The book comes with online source code, and my advice would be to get it. If you follow the source in the book you will get errors both from the database code and the PHP code. In chapter 3, for example, the author lays out a database table schema which clearly states that certain fields cannot be NULL and have no default value, and then goes on to state INSERT statements that miss these fields out...thus generating an error. Another example is where on one page the application library folder is called just that in an image, but then i the PHP code it is referred to as "lib", again creating an error when the code is ran.On the plus side the detail is very good. The first couple of chapters lay out the "why"s and "where"s of Zend Framework, and the real world example that the book builds on gives you a much more usable path of learning than someone simply telling you the details of the framework itself. Definitely a preferred approach for me!I would like to rate the book higher but having to wait for almost an extra month to get it and then penciling in the errata certainly does not build confidence in it.Paul AllsoppWebtop-Designs
